What a blessing my Instructor's Guide is. I have complete confidence that I'm teaching what needs to be taught throughout the year. When people have asked me about homeschooling and how I know my children are learning what they need to, I've whipped out my IG and they've been blown away. Most comment that with a tool like that, they'd be able to homeschool too! Thanks to the confidence I get using an established program like Sonlight, my boys are thriving and my husband and I couldn't be happier! In their first year of homeschooling using the 4th Grade Full-Grade program, Brooks (2), Jase (7), and Carter (9) climb a tree with Dad to read a short story.
Sonlight takes learning to a whole new level by combining story-telling, drama and intimate student-teacher interaction instead of just memorizing boring facts. The family lives on a rural island in the Andaman Sea off southern Thailand, where they work among the Moken Sea Gypsies. With Sonlight, we're free from the bounds of the traditional classroom. Since Denalyn and Alyssa love acting and singing, we often encourage them to sing or act out various roles from the many stories they read. The Moken children love to join in our homeschooling sessions. Our two girls have been using the curriculum for two years now and absolutely love it! Denalyn is on Core F and Alyssa is working through Core B. Here, Cally, Alyssa (7) and friends Chanap and Phen cheer on Denalyn (11) as she delivers her best impersonation of the famous Gettysburg address.

"Sonlight's rich historical novels birthed a desire in Rebecca to one day write a book of her own," writes Beth W of Flowery Branch, GA. "At age 15, she wrote White Star, an historical fiction fantasy based on true events surrounding the Titanic. When she was 18, the book was published. 'I owe my passion for history and writing to Sonlight,' says Rebecca. 'During my impressionable middle school years, Sonlight exposed me to rich classics and thrilling novels that made history come alive. Thank you for inspiring me to create and write.'" Here, the young author, who studied with Sonlight from 5th through 10th grade, proudly displays her work. Today, she promotes her book at signings and speaks to children about creative writing, the editing process and how she became published.
