Instructor's Guides
The Instructor's Guides include complete, 36-week lesson plans and notes that integrate your student’s various subjects into an exciting, unified learning experience. The Instructor's Guides weave all of the books and materials together into a cohesive full-year curriculum—it's your roadmap for the entire school year!
Starting with this upper-level program, courses are designed for more independent study. Each high school-level course includes both a Parent Guide and a separate Student Guide for History/Bible and Literature and Language Arts. Your Science program will include a Sonlight Schedule Plus or an Apologia Student Notebook. The Sonlight Schedule Plus provides the familiarity of Sonlight's Instructor's Guides for your Apologia course. Apologia’s Student Notebook includes your schedule and guides you through note-taking.
Your Parent Guide mirrors the Student Guide, but also includes answers, provides extra notes, and allows you to check your student’s progress and discuss their reading. This format allows you to be as engaged or as hands-off as you and your students like.
History, Geography & Biblical Studies
This 36-week course offers a fascinating look at the ups and downs of the nation's past. As your children transition to independent learning, they will examine the events, people, and debates that molded the United States.
Includes Sonlight’s American History 120 course.
The included Bible 110 program includes Scripture reading and practical lessons in how to study, interpret and apply the Scriptures in everyday life. Help your students build their theological framework, explore the evidence for our faith and develop discipline in prayer. Help you raise children who love God and know what and why they believe.
Literature & Language Arts
The 9th grade All-Subjects Package includes the American Historical Literature / Language Arts 130 course. In this program, students explore American history and literary genres. Sonlight’s American Historical Literature is a roughly chronological journey through American History. From Alaska’s Yukon Gold Rush to the Jim Crow South, from Iroquois life in New York to a California girl moving to Mexico, students enjoy a wide variety of settings and genres.
Fully integrated with the Literature, this year's Language Arts builds on past years and continues to develop literary analysis, creative writing, research, and essay skills, with weekly writing assignments in a range of lengths and topics.
Science
Includes Science 150: Physical Science. This is an Apologia course designed to be the last science course a student takes before high school biology, and discusses such topics as the atmosphere, hydrosphere, weather, the structure of the earth, and environmentalism. This program concentrates on physics; especially the physics of motion, Newton's Laws, gravity, and astrophysics. This program is taught from a Christian viewpoint with emphasis on the incredible design features apparent throughout God's creation.
Math
Sonlight includes Math-U-See Geometry in the 9th Grade All-Subjects Package. Math-U-See Geometry covers topics such as points, lines, rays and line segments, planes, angles, circles, triangles, quadrilaterals, the Pythagorean Theorem, conic sections, proofs and more.
Your students will work with parallel and perpendicular lines with midpoints and bisectors, they'll explore supplementary, complementary, interior and exterior angles. They will learn how to find the perimeter of a rectangle, triangle, parallelogram, and trapezoid. They'll also learn how to find the areas of these shapes as well as how to construct and identify triangles.
Resources
A few essential resources make your learning extra rich this year. The All-Subjects package includes two 3” Binders with Tabs to organize your Instructor’s Guides.
The The Timeline Book, and Markable Map and Markers are useful in high school levels 100 through 500 if you don’t already own them. (The Timeline Book and Markable Map only need to be purchased once. You'll be using them each year throughout your Sonlight studies).
