"I recommend this thorough curriculum to everyone who asks me about homeschooling!" writes Debbie D of Nome, AK. "Our daughters were in public school through 5th grade, but we were not satisfied with the depth of learning, particularly in Social Studies/History. They had learned about Columbus and his voyage several times, but not much else. My husband and I decided we needed a curriculum with a significant emphasis on History. We jumped into Sonlight's World History (Level G for 6th grade and moving on to H in 7th grade). We loved the books and the maps and, of course, Story of the World, which brought history to life for us!" On an epic field trip to England and Paris, Bethany and Kristin (both 13) pose in front of the Tower of London, which they learned about through their studies. They have now completed Sonlight 100 as well.
Thanks to Sonlight, the first thing my children ask to do when they're bored is to READ! They delight in books, thanks to the ample library we now own. One of the best things about homeschooling is being able to choose programs that fit your child's unique needs and gifts. Sonlight has allowed me to do that for my children, which makes teaching enjoyable and rewarding. Before Sonlight, I was stressed out, overwhelmed and without direction. Now I know exactly where we're going and how we're going to get there! A happy, confident teacher produces students who are eager to learn. We wouldn't have gotten there without Sonlight! In his second year, Jackson (6) is studying Core C, as London (3) and Brooklyn (1) listen in.
Sonlight has exposed our kids to wonderful literature, unique perspectives, and at all times, the highest standards. I appreciate Sonlight's flexibility. I work full time and love how I can tailor the schedule to suit our lifestyle. We spent the past year studying British history and literature in preparation for a trip to Great Britain. Here, Mom, Caroline (15) and Meredith (13) read from The Ravenmaster's Secret outside the Tower of London. The family has been studying with Sonlight for 8 years.
