Overview of the History

Instructor's Guides

We've formatted History 120 for independent study, if desired. Your History and Bible Parent Guide and separate History and Bible Student Guide weave materials together cohesively to direct your students with confidence each day.

The Parent Guide mirrors the Student Guide, but also includes answers and extra notes. So you can discuss their reading, check their progress, and bolster their academic and spiritual learning.

American History

Explore the Story of a Nation with Sonlight's 120 History/Bible course. Students are invited on a captivating journey through the triumphs, struggles, and defining moments of the United States. Designed for Christian homeschool families, this course nurtures a love for learning while helping teens build independence in their studies.

At the heart of the program is America: The Last Best Hope (One-Volume Edition) by William J. Bennett—a masterfully written narrative that brings American history to life. With its engaging storytelling and thorough detail, this resource sets a solid foundation for understanding the events and ideas that shaped our nation.

But the journey doesn't stop there, 17 additional high school-level history books explore:

  • Significant eras:  Before Columbus uncovers pre-Columbian America and The Yanks Are Coming dives into the details of World War I.
  • Influential people: from the infamous Benedict Arnold in Traitor to the inspirational David Wilkerson and Cameron Townsend.
  • Pivotal events: such as the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Pilgrim life, Gettysburg, the Panama Canal, and more...

Throughout the year, students encounter rich perspectives, cultures, and regions—making this not just a history course, but a deep, nuanced exploration of America's diverse heritage.

Many families even use Sonlight's History/Bible 120 to prepare for the CLEP American History exam, and report great success.

Whether your teen is an avid reader or just beginning to enjoy history, Sonlight’s American History curriculum combines engaging literature, solid academics, and a Christian worldview for a memorable and meaningful year of learning.

Biblical Studies

Teach your children to live out their faith. The Bible 110 program includes Scripture reading and practical lessons in how to study, interpret and apply the Scriptures in everyday life. Help your students build their theological framework, explore the evidence for our faith and develop discipline in prayer. Help you raise children who love God and know what and why they believe.
