Educational Savings Accounts
Education savings accounts (ESAs) allow parents to withdraw their children from public district or charter schools and receive a deposit of public funds into government-authorized savings accounts with restricted, but multiple, uses.
If you’re making your curriculum purchase using ESA funds, you can now purchase Sonlight through the programs below. Choose your state to get started.

Alabama
CHOOSE ACT Alabama
The Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students’ Education (CHOOSE) Act of 2024 is administered by the Alabama Department of Revenue (ALDOR).
Through the CHOOSE Act, Alabama offers refundable income tax credits—called Education Savings Accounts (ESAs)—to help eligible K–12 students succeed.
Families can use ESAs to cover tuition, fees, and other approved educational expenses at participating Education Service Providers (ESPs) in Alabama.

Arizona
Arizona Empowerment Scholarship Account
The Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program from the Arizona Department of Education gives eligible parents public funding to pursue flexible options for customizing their children's education.
Intended to expand educational opportunity outside of the public school system, it provides public funding for a wide range of personalized education expenses, including private school tuition, tutoring services, textbooks and more.

Arkansas
Arkansas Education Freedom Account
The Education Freedom Account (EFA) program from the Arkansas Department of Education provides eligible families with public funds to access flexible, customized learning opportunities for their children.
Designed to expand educational choice beyond the traditional public school setting, the program helps cover a variety of approved education expenses—including private school tuition, curriculum, tutoring, learning materials, and more—empowering parents to select the resources that best fit their student’s needs.

Florida
Step Up For Students
Florida students who are not full-time private or public school students can access the Personalized Education Program (PEP) through the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program. This scholarship provides an education savings account (ESA) to fund the educational needs of eligible students.
MyScholarShop was launched as a way to give FL Educational Savings Account families a one-stop online shopping experience to meet their students’ needs. MyScholarShop allows families to shop for pre-approved instructional materials and curriculum without having to pay out of pocket.
*Family Empowerment Scholarship families can now visit the MyScholarShop to purchase educational materials from Sonlight.
Georgia
Georgia Promise Scholarship
The Georgia Promise Scholarship Program is aimed to empower families to pursue exceptional educational programs through nonpublic schooling, including private school and home study. Should eligible families choose to leave public school (or forgo attending as a new kindergartener) to participate, the Georgia Promise Scholarship will allow families to use funds for private school tuition and fees, required textbooks, tutoring services, curriculum, physician/therapist services, transportation services, and other approved expenses.

Indiana
Indiana Education Scholarships for Students with Disabilities and their Siblings (INESA)
Sonlight is now an approved vendor for the Indiana Education Scholarship for Students with Disabilities and Their Siblings for K-12.
INESA was launched July 1, 2024 to provide scholarships for students with disabilities (and their siblings), allowing parents to opt out of the public school system and customize education to their child's needs.
Families who receive scholarships can use funds to purchase curriculum, supplies, tutoring services, therapies and other approved expenses.

New Hampshire
Children's Scholarship Fund
Education Freedom Accounts (EFA) are grants from the State of New Hampshire, administered by Children’s Scholarship Fund, made available to families with incomes at or below 300 percent of the poverty level to spend on their children’s education, including tuition at the school of their choice, tutoring, classes, online learning programs, educational supplies, technology, and other educational expenses.

North Carolina
North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority
Education Student Accounts (ESA+) scholarship funds help North Carolina families pay for education and services for children with disabilities.
The ESA+ includes a variety of enrollment options, including private schools, home schools, and co-enrollment.

Ohio
Ohio Afterschool Child Enrichment Educational Savings Program
The Ohio Afterschool Child Enrichment (ACE) Educational Savings Account program provides funds to a student’s parent or guardian to use on various enrichment and educational activities. The program is being offered through a contract between Merit International, Inc. and the Ohio Department of Education.
The ACE Educational Savings Account program provides qualifying families with a $1,000 credit that can be used to pay for a variety of enrichment activities that will accelerate learning for students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
*Update: The Ohio ACE program has stopped awarding new accounts because it has reached its capacity.
Texas
Texas Education Freedom Accounts
Texas has launched the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program to give parents more choices in their children’s education, beginning in the 2026–27 school year. Administered by the Texas Comptroller with support from Odyssey, TEFA will provide funds for private school tuition, homeschool expenses, tutoring, and more.
Families can apply and manage their accounts through Odyssey’s online portal starting in early 2026.
Utah
Utah Fits All
Utah Fits All is a universal school choice scholarship program signed into law in 2023! All K-12 students who are residents of Utah qualify to receive the full scholarship amount whether they currently attend public, private, or homeschool.
Utah Education Fits All serves as your non-profit advocacy watchdog for the Utah Fits All Scholarship Program. We will answer your questions about the program and assist you in navigating the process.
West Virginia
Hope Scholarship
Hope Scholarship is West Virginia's education savings account program that gives parents an opportunity to build an individual learning experience that works best for their child. The scholarship allows K-12 students to receive financial assistance that can be used for tuition, fees, and other expenses.
