Preschool
Our no-pressure preschool curriculum provides favorite children’s book classics, plus engaging games, and hands-on Montessori-type materials and activities all designed to address the developmental needs of young children in a fun, relaxed, and interactive environment. This program is scheduled for 3 days a week, for 30 weeks.
You'll ease into homeschooling, as you have the materials and guidance you need to gently build pre-reading, pre-math, pre-writing, listening, and motor skills. They will work with spatial relationships, build cognitive and motor skills, develop independence and self-confidence through practical life skills, and wade into rudimentary science.
Flexible and simple to teach, this program will provide the opportunity for your little one to hear great stories, spend quality time with you, and explore the world around them through great books, play, and tactile activities.

Pre-Kindergarten
Sonlight's Pre-Kindergarten program bridges the gap between the delightful picture books of Sonlight's Preschool program, and the early chapter books and early academics of Sonlight K.
Pre-K starts to expand your children's knowledge of the larger world using a few dozen books. You'll also teach alphabet sounds and verbal skills, and work through four sequential workbooks dedicated to reading readiness, so your children will be ready for phonics next year. You'll give your children a basic understanding of the physical world around them through fundamental science concepts and prepare your children with broad foundations in Bible, art, and history. Your children will develop key life skills, both cognitive and developmental—with new hands-on Montessori-type materials and activities all designed to address the developmental needs of young children in a fun, relaxed, and interactive environment.
In this 36-week program (done 4 days a week), you'll build meaningful relationships and delightful memories with your children. They'll see that learning is fun, as they start down the path of a lifetime of learning.

Teaching Multiple Students?
There are two components to an All-Subjects Package:
- The skill-based subjects (i.e. Math, Handwriting, Phonics, Spelling)
- The literature-based subjects (i.e. History, Bible, Science).
The skill-based subjects are what provide the grade level for an All-Subjects curriculum package. The literature-based homeschool programs will always be appropriate for a range of grades/ages, and are not limited to the single grade level of an All-Subjects Package.

Phonics instruction is included in the Sonlight Language Arts Guides within your All-Subjects Package for levels K-4. Spelling instruction is phonics-based and also included in the Sonlight Language Arts Guides within your All-Subjects Package for levels 1-4.
All About Spelling is included in All-Subjects Packages for levels D-F (4th through 6th grade). Vocabulary is already built into your lesson plans beginning with level A (1st grade). Spelling and vocabulary words are from the reading you share with your students. This makes practice a natural addition to your homeschool day. We do offer additional spelling resources as desired.

› What is all-in-one homeschool curriculum?
An all-in-one homeschool curriculum is one in which all subjects are included. Some companies specialize in one or two subjects, like Math or Science. At Sonlight, we believe that literature-based learning extends across all subjects, so we delight in presenting cohesive, well-planned, full curriculum packages for all ages. We offer what we refer to as All-Subject Packages where families can customize and purchase their entire homeschool curriculum in one place. It couldn’t be simpler, and we will guide you in every step.
› What does it mean to be accredited?
You may have heard people talk about accredited schools. Accredited schools are institutions in which an agency of some type has completed a sort of quality assurance process to determine that the school’s standards and practices are up to par in order to give students the very best education possible. In a way, this is an attempt to place all schools on a level playing field, requiring the same of each institution.
At one time, most colleges only accepted students from accredited programs. This is the primary reason why many homeschoolers are concerned about accreditation. However, that has changed drastically. Now, most colleges recognize and reward homeschoolers regularly for their academic achievements.
Only institutions (not curriculum) can be accredited, which is the reason many schools, both public and private, boast of some sort of accreditation. It’s good to remember, however, that the only accreditation that is nationally recognized is that which is done through our federal government by The Department of Secondary and Elementary Education. Therefore, any other type of accreditation may or may not be recognized by higher learning institutions.
› Is Sonlight homeschool accredited?
Sonlight is an international company, servicing the curriculum needs of homeschoolers all over the world for decades. Since Sonlight is not a school or educational institution, accreditation does not apply. Schools can be accredited, but curriculum cannot be.
Instead of being interested in accreditation from any agency, we are focused on the positive results we’ve built over the last 30 years. We are encouraged by the vast number of higher learning institutions that have embraced these results as well. Sonlight curriculum prepares students well for higher learning.
› How do I organize an all-in-one homeschool program?
While organization methods are a personal preference, organizing Sonlght's all-in-one boxed curriculum is easy. You’ll need a good, sturdy bookshelf—maybe a few, depending on how long you’ve been using Sonlight! You’ll also want an area to store supplies like paper and pencils. Sonlight is truly an open-and-go curriculum, so all you need is your Instructor’s Guide and a few books, and you’re set.
Your Instructor’s Guide is your one-stop tool for all your planning needs. While most curriculum asks you to do the planning, at Sonlight, we do it for you. Your Instructor’s Guide will have your day almost completely organized. All you’ll need to do is follow along in your chosen math curriculum or download the Sonlight created math schedule for your chosen program in your sonlight.com account.
› Which homeschool curriculum is best?
While we are certainly partial to our own Sonlight curriculum, the best homeschool curriculum is one which allows your child to absolutely fall in love with learning. It is one rich in wonder and awe, instilling in your child a deep hunger to keep learning and growing. The best homeshool program is the one that is easy to teach for you and one that suits your worldview.

› How do I pick a homeschool curriculum?
There are so many options out there! Sometimes it’s hard to know which one would be the best for your child. At Sonlight, we recommend that you consider your child first.
- What type of learner is he/she?
- Is he introverted or extroverted?
- Does she enjoy workbooks, or does she prefer to be moving about while she works?
Once you figure out what type of learner your child is, you’ll want to look specifically for a curriculum that matches your child. In other words, don’t try a sit-down workbook-style curriculum for your ultra-energetic child. You’ll want to choose something that allows for a lot of movement and hands-on learning experiences.
Next, do your research to see what’s out there. Make a list of the options you think would work and why. You might even try a pros and cons list for each curriculum. Once you get a few options, take a break if you can. During this break, pray and ask God to guide you to choose the curriculum that best fits your child’s learning style as well as your goals and ideals as the parent.
