Sonlight has helped our family learn that education is not something that happens during a particular time or in a particular place. While the military has allowed us to experience learning in some unique places, it's our commitment to being a Sonlight family that has provided the best possible means of helping our kids love to learn, no matter where they are! If it weren't for Sonlight's relaxed approach and emphasis on sharing good literature together, I could all too easily lean toward being a check-the-boxes homeschooling mom, trying to conform my kids to an educational formula. The family started with Sonlight in 2005. When they took a recent day-trip to Cuma, it seemed apropos for Charis (12, Core F) to revisit an earlier Core favorite.

I have a friend who uses another curriculum, and she is always stressed out about time. Sonlight is different. I feel free to teach my children using their learning styles and my teaching style. The Instructor's Guides are great – I know exactly what to do each day. We can take time off if needed for spontaneity or vacation or whatever.  One of the things I love most about Sonlight has been how it has encouraged family learning. What could be more wonderful than watching big sisters and brothers reading and teaching the younger ones? When I'm reading from one of the many fabulous Sonlight books, it's magnetic. I may start reading to one child, but pretty soon, the room is quiet and several are listening and snuggling up on the couch! I just can't say enough about how the incredible literature has enhanced our togetherness. We've been using Sonlight for 13 wonderful years and are going to have our first graduate this year! Our youngest is just beginning her Sonlight adventure. Angelina (5) and Isabella (11) are using Cores A and H.
