Scholarship Information

The Sonlight Curriculum Foundation is accepting applications for college scholarships to be awarded in 2009.

Now is the time to apply for your Scholarship for classes beginning the Fall of 2009 (Planning to enter college in Fall 2010 or later? Please see the footnote below.)

Sonlight Curriculum, Ltd.'s charitable foundation is sponsoring a competition for twelve scholarships: one $20,000 ($5,000 per year), three $10,000 ($2,500 per year, each), and eight $4,000 ($1,000 per year, each) four-year scholarships for students who intend to begin college in the Fall of 2009.

We are offering these scholarships based upon two different sets of criteria (one called Green and the other, Blue). You may apply either set, but not both.

1. Green Criteria: We will give three scholarships with the following amounts—One $10,000 ($2,500 per year) and two $4,000 ($1,000 per year, each) annual four-year scholarships will be awarded in this category based on the following criteria, in order of the greater priority to the lesser:

  • creativity, mission mindedness, or acts of kindness
  • spiritual mindedness
  • leadership
  • academic performance
  • heart for learning
  • activities and interests

2. Blue Criteria: We will give nine scholarships of the following amounts—One $20,000 ($5,000 per year), two $10,000 ($2,500 per year, each), and six $4,000 ($1,000 per year, each) four-year scholarships based upon the following criteria, in order of the greater priority to the lesser:

  • academic performance
  • spiritual mindedness
  • leadership
  • creativity, mission mindedness, or acts of kindness
  • heart for learning
  • activities and interests

For at least two of these scholarships, we will give added weight to applicants with math or science backgrounds.

All Scholarship applications for students beginning classes in the Fall of 2009 must be submitted by December 8, 2008. We will accept and review all applications postmarked December 8, 2008 and before.

The scholarship committee will review all applications, decide on qualifications and merit, and inform the winner(s) no later than February 15, 2009.

Note that if you win one of these scholarships, you will receive it for all four years of your college career as long as you maintain eligibility as follows:

  • You must maintain a 3.5 grade point average during each year of the scholarship.

  • You must use the scholarship in four consecutive years.

  • You must provide us a copy of your college transcripts annually as validation.

Please Note: We will expand our scholarship awards to more than 12 for applications due in December 2009. Our evaluation criteria will also change for 2009. To be eligible for a scholarship award for students beginning college in 2010, we will require candidates to have purchased and used five (5) full Sonlight Curriculum Core programs (may include Core, Newcomer™, or, from previous years, "Basic," or "First-Time" packages).
