Scholarship Information

Sonlight Curriculum, Ltd. is again sponsoring competition for thirteen scholarships: one $5,000 ($20,000 total), four $2,500 ($10,000 total, each), and eight $1,000 ($4,000 total, each) annual four-year scholarships for students who intend to begin college in the Fall of 2010. We call these "annual" four-year scholarships only to indicate that if you win one of these awards, you will receive it for four consecutive years of your college career as long as you meet the requirements to maintain eligibility for the full four years.

The criteria we use is arranged two ways to reward your student's unique efforts (one called Green and the other, Blue). You may apply to either set, but not both.

1. Green Criteria: We will give four scholarships with the following amounts—Two $10,000 ($2,500 per year) and two $4,000 ($1,000 per year, each) annual four-year scholarships will be awarded in this category based on the following criteria, in order of the greater priority to the lesser:

• creativity, mission mindedness, or acts of kindness
• spiritual mindedness
• leadership
• academic performance
• heart for learning
• activities and interests

2. Blue Criteria: We will give nine scholarships of the following amounts—One $20,000 ($5,000 per year), two $10,000 ($2,500 per year, each), and six $4,000 ($1,000 per year, each) four-year scholarships based upon the following criteria, in order of the greater priority to the lesser:

• academic performance
• spiritual mindedness
• leadership
• creativity, mission mindedness, or acts of kindness
• heart for learning
• activities and interests

For at least two of these scholarships, we will give added weight to applicants with math or science backgrounds.

All Scholarship applications for students beginning classes in the Fall of 2010 must be submitted by December 7, 2009. We will accept and review all applications postmarked December 7, 2009 and before.

The scholarship committee will review all applications, decide on qualifications and merit, and inform the winner(s) no later than February 15, 2010.

Note that if you win one of these scholarships, you will receive it for four consecutive years of your college career as long as you maintain eligibility as follows:

• You must maintain a 3.5 grade point average during each year of the scholarship.
  
  
• You must use the scholarship in four consecutive years.
  
  
• You must be enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  
  
• You must provide us a copy of your college transcripts annually as validation.
  
  
• You must submit a personal letter updating us on how your college experience is meeting your goals and helping you pursue God's purpose for your future.
