Scholarship Information

Sonlight offers college scholarships

Sonlight's goal is to provide the best Christian homeschool curriculum materials and service. We are privileged to offer scholarships for homeschoolers entering college or a university. Eligibility for college scholarships is one of the many benefits of being a Club Member.

The Sonlight Curriculum Foundation is accepting applications for college scholarships to be awarded in 2015.

Now is the time to apply for your Scholarship for college classes beginning the Fall of 2015

Sonlight Curriculum, Ltd.'s charitable foundation is sponsoring a competition for thirteen scholarships: one $5,000 ($20,000 total), four $2,500 ($10,000 total, each), and eight $1,000 ($4,000 total, each) annual four-year scholarships for students who intend to begin college in the Fall of 2015.

To be eligible for a scholarship award for students beginning college in 2015, we will require candidates to have purchased and used five (5) full Sonlight Curriculum Core programs (may include Core or Full-Grade packages or, from previous years, CorePlus, CoreUltra, "Basic," "First-Time" or Newcomer packages), all purchased in 2000 or later.

We encourage you to contact us in September or after to verify eligibility, as this may save you considerable time and avoid unnecessary aggravation. You may either send an email to scholarship@sonlight.com or call 303-730-6292 and ask for the scholarship coordinator.

We offer scholarships based on two different sets of criteria

(Green or Blue) You may apply to meet either set, but not both.

1. Green Criteria: We will give at most four scholarships in which creativity, mission mindedness, acts of kindness, and other factors count more highly than academics. Two $2,500 ($10,000 total) and two $1,000 ($4,000 total, each) annual four-year scholarships may be awarded in this category based upon the following weighted criteria, in order of the greater weight to the lesser weight:

  • creativity, mission mindedness, or acts of kindness
  • spiritual mindedness
  • leadership
  • academic performance
  • heart for learning
  • activities and interests

2. Blue Criteria: We will give at most nine scholarships in which academics are the greatest weight in our selection. For at least two of these scholarships, we will give added weight to applications from applicants with math or science backgrounds. One $5,000 ($20,000 total), two $2,500 ($10,000 total, each), and six $1,000 ($4,000 total, each) annual four-year scholarships may be awarded in this category based upon the following weighted criteria, in order of the greater weight to the lesser weight:

  • academic performance
  • spiritual mindedness
  • leadership
  • creativity, mission mindedness, or acts of kindness
  • heart for learning
  • activities and interests

All Scholarship applications for students beginning classes in the Fall of 2015 must be submitted by December 4, 2014. We will accept and review all applications postmarked or received by email December 4, 2014 and before.

The scholarship committee will review all applications, decide on qualifications and merit, and inform the winner(s) no later than February 16, 2015.

Please read our evaluation criteria to determine your eligibility and then use our application to apply!

Scholarship FAQs:

What kind of "proof" do I need to verify the accreditation of the college I plan to attend?

The official website address of the school you are planning to attend is enough information for us to verify.

Do I need to have my official test scores sent directly from the College Board/ACT, Inc.?

No, copies are fine. We gladly accept copies of the official test scores you received.

Do reference letters need to be mailed separately?

No. We encourage you to submit your reference letters at the same time as your application to ensure they are received by the application deadline.

Note that if you win one of these scholarships, you will receive it for four consecutive years of your undergraduate college career as long as you maintain eligibility as follows:

  • You must maintain a 3.5 grade point average during each year of the scholarship.
  • You must use the scholarship in four consecutive years.
  • You must be enrolled full time in an accredited college or university.
  • You must provide us a copy of your college transcripts annually as validation.
  • You must provide us one or more of your submitted papers or class projects (such as a music composition, science experiment, etc.) as an example of your work over the year.
  • You must submit a personal letter updating us on how your college experience is meeting your goals and helping you pursue God's purpose for your future.
