Newcomer P3/4 Fiction, Fairy Tales, and Fun for Little Learners

My 4 year old nephew loves these books, especially loves the Tall Nursery Book and the Teddy Bear matching game. He beats me nearly every time. This core has lots of great books and Mighty Mind is great for increasing spatial abilities. I look forward to re-using it with my niece [3] this coming year.

My three year old son LOVES about half of the items in this package. The others he doesn't pay much attention to. However, even for the products that he has been interested in, it has certainly been worth the money! And who knows, maybe he'll be more interested in the rest when he's four years old...

My daughter is 2 1/2, and loves to read. She tells us she wants to read her "schoolbooks" all the time. I am so thankful that Sonlight was recommended to me. She has advanced so much! She is telling me the stories we have read in her own words. She is able to read small words, and she can tell me the sounds of most letters. She knows her letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. We are having a ball with this curriculum! When she turns three, we will be starting the 4/5 curriculum with her. Thank you so much for putting these works together for us!

My child is 3 and a half and I ordered a selection of the above materials. She loves the teddy mix & match and even beats me at it... She loves the collection of picture book classics. They are new to me as well as I did not grow up with these. I just want to mention that I think the "Our animals on Maple Hill farm" should not be classified under this age group. There are parts I had to leave out, such as birds being gruesomely killed and dogs that were put down...I won't read it again until she is at least several years older. I love the Noah's ark picture book though some of the pictures are upsetting (in the beginning) and she was quite upset about the animals standing around the ark that want to go in, but can't, and know they will drown...this part is not scriptural, either. But I really loved the last picture with the ark as the "tree on a hill", same as the cross was a tree on a hill that brought salvation to those who believe. I would say she likes the Mighty mind, though she needs some encouragement and I have to sit with her. She actually mastered all the cards which are supposed to be up to 8 years old, I would say it's definitely for younger ages and not up to 8 as it says on the box. She loves the flip/flap body book and is very interested by the content. I thought the pictures in the 101 favourite stories from the Bible are boring and old fashioned. We haven't read from it yet as it did not grab her attention. But I hope we will read from it when she is a bit older and the pictures become less important. Generally I was really happy with the order, it arrived quickly and I found the materials of high quality. We will definitely use Sonlight again in the future.

I bought this as a filler to the year while waiting for my 3yo daughter to reach formal preschool age. She is ready to learn, only her age holds her back. She cannot get enough of this pack! If she had her way we would've finished reading everything in a month! We've only received this pack in early April, and we're now halfway through the third trimester list! I'm wondering whether to repeat this for the sake of my younger 1yo (can't sit still yet), or order P4/5 to start homeschooling properly and skip going to preschool next year.

I purchased this core to try and get my dyslexic oldest child interested in learning after the public school squashed that love and turned her into a little machine that will do worksheets and avoid books. First off, the day our curriculum arrived she was still at school so her sisters got to see the books first. She tried to act disinterested, but she then saw one book that caught her eye and she curled up with it to look at the pictures. Then she snuck it outside when I told her to put the book down and go ride her bike. Now, a year later, this child is 7 years old and is starting to read the stories to her little sisters (ages 6, 4, and 2 1/2) and she thanks me every day for buying this core package for our family. My family was blessed in more ways than one can imagine because of this program, and I hope that we continue to be blessed as we continue through future cores. Thanks SOnlight for creating such a wonderful program, it really has changed our family for the better and given my oldest daughter that spark for learning again.

As a mom of 4 who has homeschooled w/ SL from the beginning (started w/Core 1), the LAST thing I thought I would ever buy would be the Newcomer P3/4 program, especially with our huge personal library and older kids w/ advanced reading levels. Yet my current 2 yo was begging for books constantly during our school day, and to keep him out of our older core books I finally ordered this product. WOW!!! Even the 2 books in this package that we did not like do not put a dent in my love for this product. My 8 yo grabbed the Mike Mulligan book and lugged it off to his bed for "safekeeping." My 10 yo has a couple of the treasuries stashed up in her bed. My 5 yo gets out the books that he can read and goes over and over them. And my 2 yo can't stop reading Go Dog Go (with or without us) and wants us to read to him over and over from many many others. This package is a home run!!!!

I purchased this core for my 3/4 year old in the 2008/2009 school year. He attended a Private Christian Preschool 2 days a week. Each day, 4 days a week, we would do "school." The sweet thing was that each day he would come home from Preschool he would be so excited about doing his "school." To be honest, I loved doing school as much as he did. Each of the books is excellent and I plan to use the core again this year with my 2 almost 3 year old son. Thank you Sonlight for putting together such an excellent program and such classic, age appropriate, literature. As a former homeschooled child, this is the way I wish I had been taught. It would have made learning that much more fun!

I bought this for my 3 year old, I also have triplet 1 year olds and want to home preschool them all, not only is my 3 year old enjoying the readings but I also have a 6 year old that is enjoying the stories as well. I plan on buying the P 4/5 next year and following with the K package. My 3 year old and triplets are all September babies and I plan on using Sonlight for home preeschooling, I am hoping when I send the 3 year old off to K the teacher will say that she knows all the K stuff and needs to be in 1st grade, if that happens I think I will homeschool the school years too, and pull my oldest out. I am just not sure if I can do it with triplet 1 year olds, but when they are older. Maybe. :) Thanks for a great start Sonlight we are enjoying the books!!!!! :)

I bought this for my 4 year-old daughter a couple of years ago, because we lived overseas and had few books of our own. I'm using it again with my 3 year-old son, but my daughter still loves the stories. These books follow my kids to rest time, in the car, to bed, and everywhere in between. I've been following the reading list and although some people may not like the jumping around from book to book, my kids seem to enjoy guessing what we're going to read next. This core has definitely been worth the cost and has filled out our home library nicely!
