Fall in love with learning
Crack open a special book and sail to adventures
far and wide. This informal preschool
program helps you use the "best-ever" children's
classics--plus fun games and activities--to
effectively teach your young children.
You receive the finest, most complete selection
of classic children's literature and fairy tales
available. The included Parent's Companion
shows you what to do with the books and
games to help your children love learning.
Give the gift of reading
We don't think children this young need much
"school." Nor do they need repetitive worksheets,
which can give them an early distaste
for learning.
What your little ones really need is to hear
great stories, spend quality time with you, and
explore the world around them through play.
We created P3/4 to help that happen in your
home.
Reading out loud to your children is the
single most important thing you can do to
build pre-reading skills and prepare them academically.
With the many books and activities in P3/4,
you get to watch your little ones make huge
leaps in vocabulary, gain important pre-reading
skills, increase their cultural literacy, be inspired
by beautiful illustrations and simple activities,
increase their attention span, improve their
listening ability and develop key motor skills.
But you also get to make precious memories
with them and spend valuable time showing
your kids how much you love them. My heart
resonates with the classic lines:
You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be--
I had a Mother who read to me.
Your Core P3/4 program includes:
Parent's Companion
Homeschool with confidence knowing you're
giving your children just what they need at
this age. Your Parent's Companion helps you
capitalize on teachable moments that naturally
arise.
This guide doesn't use a daily schedule like
our other Core programs. We simply list the
stories and activities by trimester and suggest
you check them off as you enjoy them. If your
children want to read one story 15 times in a
row--go for it!
We want you to treasure your time reading
and playing with your little ones. To that end,
we also suggest an easy, creative activity to coordinate with most of the stories you read. This
helps you extend your learning into daily life
and play. Request a brief sample of the Parent's
Companion.
Read-Alouds
Show your children that reading is a joy! These
timeless classics with rich illustrations provide
springboards to learning. With 15 picture
books featuring 167 stories (fiction and true)
and 34 fairy and nursery tales, get ready to:
- Recognize cadence and rhyme (and the value
of perseverance) with an elephant who tries
to hatch an egg.
- Re-discover treasures you may remember
from your own childhood, such as Mike
Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, Blueberries for
Sal and Make Way for Ducklings.
- Praise God for His delightful answer to a missionary's
prayer in Thailand.
Games and Songs
Feed your children's desire to learn with two
excellent games and a delightful CD.
- Watch their little brains develop as they form
geometric patterns with Mighty Mind.
- Build cognitive and motor skills with Teddy
Mix and Match. (And watch out--they may
even beat you at this visual memory game!)
- Develop listening skills and an appreciation
for music with 77 classic nursery rhymes and
lullabies.
Spark a love to learn
I wish all children could enjoy a preschool
program so full of rich stories, games and meaningful
time with their parents. Enjoy this special
gift you get to give your little ones.

We started using core P3/4 when my daughters were two and four years old. This was our first year homeschooling and we could not have been more happy with this curriculum. The parent companion is a wonderful guide. It is divided into three parts, starting with the easiest stories in the first quarter and ending in the third quarter with longer more challenging stories. The books are wonderful and exposed the children to many different authors and artists. The girls had so many favorite books in this core. It was a lot of fun to read the stories over and over again and watch as they discovered different things in them. Later I would catch them sitting on the couch retelling the stories as they looked through the pages. They also incorporated the stories into their play, building cities out of legos (referencing the book "Katy and the big snow"), blowing down pretend structures like the wolf in "The three little pigs", and playing the harmonica like "Lentil". The pictures in the treasury book are condensed and small, but we made that fun by going to the library and checking out the individual books. The kids really enjoyed seeing two different copies of the same book. Then when we went on vacation, we just took the treasury book and they had bunch of their favorites with them. We did not have a set time each day for doing school. We just let it naturally evolve, some mornings the girls would cuddle up in bed and we would start the day reading, other days they needed to run and bounce early, so we would read before nap time, or at bedtime. We read at the kitchen table, on the couch, in our beds, outside, on vacation, and at grandparents' houses. I am so glad that I found this way of schooling in our first year. Schooling this way is relaxed and fun and I get to witness the magic as I watch my daughters learn.

we recieved our 3/4 core shortly after my daughter turned 2. She loves it! She has favorites that she asks for every night. Beautiful books that we will enjoy for a long time. The wee song CD is great too, she can sing with alot of the rhymes on the CD. I really like the IG because its broken up into trimesters from easier to hardest so you can pick and choose what you want to do. The treasury book is great because it has pictures of all the stories on the front, my daughter says "dat one and dat one" pointing to the stories she wants. Great and worth the money!

After much anticipation we finally received our Core P 3/4. (It only took a few days but my 3yo girl couldn't wait to have her own Box Day!) We are so excited to journey through this. We already played the 'Teddy Bear Mix & Match' game three times today and she loved it. We even did the Mighty Mind and that was enjoyed throughly as well and I can't state enough how amazing it is and what a great thing. My 5yo will get alot out of the Mighty Mind too. We only read one of the stories so far but my little girl was turning the pages and very involved which is a big deal for her. LAST BUT NOT LEAST is the Parents Companion that goes with it! I couldn't sleep last night until I read the whole thing. It is full of inspirational quotes and hints and has an entire section dedicated to helping the homeschooling parent keep a clean and orderly home. THAT section should be in EVERY IG for EVERY core level.

What a delightful Core! A perfect introduction to great stories and experiencing the joy of cuddling up with a special book. I've been using it with my 3 year old and he always wants "just one more!" when we're done. Its exactly how I want reading to be impressed upon him - as something that unlocks a treasure of imagination and excitement. Thanks Sonlight!

We have greatly enjoyed reading through this Core. It really has given my 4 year old daughter a love for learning. Every day, she brings me her stack of books so we can "do school" just like her older siblings. As others have mentioned, the older children also gather around for these stories. A real winner for the whole family. When I am not able to read with her, she keeps herself busy with the Mighty Minds pattern blocks, and the Teddy Mix And Match. This is a great core, and well worth the money. Highly recommended.

I bought this Core for my older ones (4 and 6 at the time) to enjoy, with the intention of using it with my 3 year old a bit later. We ALL have enjoyed this core, with the exception of a few stories, but the vast majority have been great. I would not have bought quite a few of them had they not been in this Core, and I am so glad I trusted Sonlight and bought this Core.

We LOVE this Core! I decided to use it with our 2 youngest kids (ages 3 and 4) that we recently adopted from Ethiopia. It has been SUCH a joy to sit and read with them, to hear them giggle, and to relate to the stories. I think that it has really aided in our bonding process, as well as their learning of English. Some of my best memories over the last months, are with them on my lap reading from these stories. Thank you, SL, for this GREAT curriculum! (Our oldest 2, who are doing Core K, can't keep away from the p3/4 stories, either! We all love it! Thank you!)

Excellent books! Loved all except the Noah's Ark - too sad to see the leftover animals standing in the flooding water looking at the others in the boat. This really upset me, but I am a total animal lover.

I bought this for my 2 1/2daughter. She loves it, I love it! She loves to read, this adds books I would not think buy. It is worth the money even at a early age.

I bought this for my 4 y/o son --- I am thrilled to say the selection of books are much more versatile than I had anticipated. My 19 month old and 7 y/o beg me to read stories from these books on a daily basis! Also, the parents companion is really great! It has some lovely poetry and encouraging words for parents, it was definitely worth it's weight ...
