I taught both of my children to read using this book--it is not just for kids who are having problems learning to read, but is a great method to teach from the beginning.

My daughter was struggling to read, I believe due to confusion of phonics vs ABC's. Going back to basics with phonics has transformed her into an avid reader. She can read anything at 11, when at 9 I was worried. Teaching me to teach them and giving all the tools has been life changing. Because of the principles I learned, my other 2 children are not struggling now.

Very Good product. This begins with a few oral games and lots of hands-on work with paper letter tiles that help students encode and decode. The diagnostic tests helped me understand where my child had trouble reading and why, and then specific exercises to work on that would help him. Plus, the first 3 chapters helped me understand the process of learning to read in a deeper way. I give the first half of this book 5 stars! But the 2nd half--the "advanced code" section could use some attention. It's a bit more clunky to use and the instructions are not as clear. However, as a whole the book transformed how I taught reading and I recommend it without hesitation.

I think this is an excellent resource for all parents, not just for those with remedial readers
