Two hundred fifty brightly colored, heavy duty plastic geometric shapes that make wonderful "mosaic" designs and lend themselves to great "hands on" learning of math concepts from counting to geometry. Kids love them! Set includes two 4x6" mirrors (for help with seeing symmetry).

I hope this review is helpful, and not distracting. Main point: I believe that the blocks and mirrors are a good set, and my daughter enjoys them a lot coupled with the two sets of patterns included in the package I purchased. There are other products available that are slightly cheaper (such as Melissa and Doug type toys) that include patterns to complete, but fewer of them, fewer total shapes, and no mirrors. If money were an issue, I might have chosen one of those cheaper sets to provide more varieties of activities. My four year old loves repetition, but over the course of a year I think it is fun to do other math and logic-building activities like marble mazes, 3-d shapes, kitchen math (measuring), etc. So if I only had $60 to spend, I might choose 2-3 different toys that are in this category rather than committing to the one set of pattern blocks, the patternables book, and the $10 set of patterns. However, I do think that this set is a good value for the price, and I am not at all sad to have it for our collection. It is well used by everyone in the family, from 2-7!

We've gotten through the Singapore Earlybird Math a bit quickly. This has been great to add in as we review and to make the math review a little more fun. And we use them for everything. They're great "math manipulatives" but he's used them for "inventions" all over the house. Really worth the purchase.

These things are fun for all ages. I recall my then 13 year old sister spending hours playing with them one Summer when she was visiting us, and my 2 year old spends at least a little bit of time with them each week. Truly a great investment item.

My older kids (6 yo boy and 8 yo girl) love to make patterns with these blocks, both free form and on the pattern cards. They are colorful and completely sturdy, easy to handle. But the one who enjoys them most is the 3 yo with an engineer's mind--mapping out patterns keeps him occupied for large parts of the school day.
