The grammar your students need — in one self-paced program!

Product Note: This DVD can only be played on Region 1 DVD players (US & Canada only, not for export).

To teach every grammar rule in the English language, you'd need hundreds of lessons (and possibly a psychiatrist.) Thankfully, your children don't need every rule to succeed. Just the ones in The Grammar Ace...

In building our newest course, Sonlight worked with Avyx (the publisher) to create a progressive journey through only the most practical grammar your children need. No dangling participles here. Just the tools to help young writers master any standardized test, and become better writers.

And it's all here — a complete grammar education, in one program. Your students set their own pace. Take the 36 lessons and do them in six months, or two years... you decide. The program is designed to serve kids in grades 4-7, and be all the grammar they will need.

More tools and help than ever for the teacher — you.

You'll never feel "stranded," trying to explain grammar to your students on your own.

Throughout the entire course, each lesson includes: a definition of the new rule being taught, a scripted teaching segment with examples and ideas, "In a Nutshell" section which distills the lesson to a brief, easy-to-grasp summary, two engaging and student-focused activity sheets, plus answers for everything but the free writing assignments!

Sonlight's new Grammar Ace is a perfect supplement to the Language Arts programs. And it's designed to work just as well for new homeschoolers coming from a public school curriculum, too. The program also includes (and uses) the Grammar Rock portion of the delightful Schoolhouse Rock DVD, animated educational songs. These 46 beloved classics helped a generation remember their grammar, math, history, science and other subjects. It's a great teaching tool, and your kids will love singing along to "Conjunction Junction," "Unpack Your Adjectives," and more!

Users and experts agree: Less rules, more reading and writing...

"Reading, not grammar, produces good writing," says master teacher and curriculum expert, Dr. Ruth Beechick.

"Also, with frequent writing practice in a variety of styles, grammar comes naturally," she writes in her recent review of Sonlight's new Language Arts programs. The basic rules are important but, according to Beechick, your students seem to learn grammar best "along the way," in context.

With Sonlight's new Language Arts, your students experience plenty of practical grammar. Unlike other programs that deliver a barrage of exercises covering multiple concepts at once, Sonlight gradually introduces key writing-related grammar "gems," in the context of your children's reading and writing.

But many parents — and students — still want the more intensive coverage of grammar rules offered in previous editions of our Language Arts. Now, you can add a complete grammar education in one pace-yourself course. Order The Grammar Ace package today!

If you are not confident in grammar yourself, I really can't recommend this grammar program. I thought that I knew the parts of speech pretty well, but I found it very difficult to help my children complete this workbook. The teacher guide offered little help. Many lessons simply said "answers may vary". Over and over, I had to simply admit that I didn't know, when my children asked questions, and that I couldn't find the answer - even from other sources. The DVD is great, but I can't recommend the Grammar Ace workbook and teacher guide. We ended up putting it aside this year and will cover grammar next year, using a different program.

I hate to give such a low rating to a Sonlight product, but I think this grammar program falls short. Grammar is one area where I am not comfortable teaching, and this product did not help me to get over that. Way too many of the lessons had "answers may vary" as the only thing written in the answer key. I understand Sonlight's desire to use the natural approach and "real" writing to teach from, but if I couldn't understand the lesson on direct objects well enough to locate them in a newspaper article, how can I help my child do that assignment? In addition, the lesson on gerunds was not only confusing, I think it may have been wrong. Grammar Ace implies that using gerunds is poor writing and should be avoided. Indeed, the whole assignment for that lesson is taking sentences that contain gerunds and rewriting them without gerunds. My son and I tried to work these together and we couldn't find a way to do the assignment without changing the meaning of the sentences. Again the answer had the very unhelpful "answers may vary". I have later read that gerunds aren't bad or good, they simply are.

We love Grammar Ace. I have 8 children ranging from 15yrs to 5yrs. Everyone participates and the kids love the silly sentences. We really enjoy the DVDs and the lessons. We do all the suggested lesson ideas and don't find that we have any trouble with retention. And...I hate grammar, this is a great fun program.

My kids enjoy the program, especially the School House Rock videos. However, there is not enough practice for them to retain the information. I don't find that they are mastering even the basics. Will have to find something else to supplement.

We just started using this. So far my 4th grader is enjoying and understanding the concepts. The lessons are short without too much busy work. And, of course, the songs get stuck in our head all day. My kindergartner loves the videos, too.

I am so pleased with this program. It makes grammar enjoyable and memorable. This is the perfect fit for our family. I like that it is not a list of rules and definitions, but is instead taught as concepts to be mastered through a simple, enjoyable process that sticks. Perfect!

I like the program. It uses many creative and fun ways to teach basic grammar concepts to children.

Schoolhouse Rock is, of course, great. The teacher book is good. However, there is nothing for the student to refer back to, no lists of definitions or examples or anything like that. The workbook just has the exercises (which are good), without any explanation of the concept they are working on. So, if they forget what a direct object is, they might be able to look back and figure it out from the exercises, but there's nothing written down in their book that explains it. Yes, they can always ask me, but my kids need to also see things written down and see examples.

The School House Rock videos are great! My kids love them, but "Grammar Ace" itself is not for our family. I'd recommend Winstson Grammar over Grammar Ace.
