I appreciate the diversity of different assignments in these books. My daughter has learned a lot from them, this is actually her second year doing this set. Last year they were challenging, this year she flies through them which is a testament to how far she has come!

I used the first book in this series for my autistic son. We were very pleased with it, and feel it has great skills for developing learners. However, we experienced a problem in Book 4, and wanted to warn parents that are not quite ready to have their young children exposed to the realities of animals being brought to slaughter. On page five in Book Four, the children are told to sequence a story, which commonly occurs in this series. I thought it was a typical story, as usually occurs, but that was not the case this time. My son numbered the page, and then burst into tears. I couldn't imagine why he was so upset, but then realized that the whole sequence was of cows going to market, being slaughtered, the meat sold in the store, and then put on the table for supper. I was very upset because that was far too much information for my autistic preschool son to handle suddenly. If a child is raised on a farm, or in a family that hunts, he or she could probably handle it ok, but I still felt this was inappropriate material for a pre-school book. I just think that this would have been more appropriate for a fourth-grader.

These books are pricy, but excellent quality. They include unique exercises that I haven't seen in other workbooks. My children have greatly enjoyed these workbooks and found them fun. By book 4, some of the memory exercises are pretty challenging. These books definitely challenge children to improve skills necessary for learning (looking at details, listening, memory, etc.)
