Consumable. Very easy to use, this series of four carefully sequenced workbooks helps you discover your children's learning strengths and weaknesses while they have a great time.
The program develops your child's abilities in four major areas:
- Motor--left-right tracking, mazes, eye movements, hand-eye coordination;
- Visual--similarities, memory, figure-ground distinction and space orientation;
- Auditory--similarities, memory, rhyming; and
- Comprehension--categories, sequence, language, awareness.
Each workbook contains a diagnostic progress chart and suggested exercises for testing and remedying perceptual handicaps. By the end of the year you will have an excellent idea of your child's learning readiness and be able to see improvement in all areas. Pb.
Sample files are available on the individual workbook pages.

These are great, we have just started book 2 (but are repeating some sections of book 1) and I am already amazed at the growth my child has made in her readiness skills!

These books are marvelous! My second ds was so much more prepared for K level hand writing and work than my first ds thanks to these books. They developed his fine motor skill exactly the way they needed to be developed for hand writing. The transition to K was smooth and easy. I attribute the easy transition largely to the preparation he received through the Developing the Early Learner series.

I am not big on workbooks, especially for preschool and Kindergarten kids, but these are a must in our homeschool. Don't be mislead with the "readiness" label on these; they aren't about ABCs and 123s like most "readiness" workbooks are. The Developing the
Early Learner (DEL) series doesn't teach or reinforce ABCs or 123s. I feel that it is better to think of the DEL series as critical thinking for little ones. They work with concepts like auditory memory (listening to a list of directions, waiting a few seconds to a minute, and then performing them), visual memory (being shown an imagine, waiting a minute, and then having to find it out of a group of images), sequencing (putting pictures in order of what happened first, second, third, and so on), hand eye coordination (mazes, tracing, and other tasks), and much more. You will learn your child's strengths and weaknesses from this series, and by working through the books they will improve in all areas. The books increase in difficulty, so while book 1 is often the right level, or even a bit easy, for most 4 year old, book 4 can be a challenge for even some Kindergartners.

These books are great. I agree with all of the reviews on here. These are not ordinary, I think that they are well thought out as to prepare children and eviluate them on several types of learning skills. While they might seem like workbooks full of assessments, my daughter loves to do these. I call it a "game" and she gets very excited. The exercises can definitely be fun on top of all of the other benefits that they provide as listed by other reviewers.

These workbooks are definitely an excellent thing. They are not just a readiness set, they have challenged my oldest daughter all school year with just book 1 so far (we took it easy as she was interested, after all she was just 4 when we started them) I look forward to finishing the set with her, and am getting ready to order them for my second daughter to work slowly through as well. She will definitely benefit greatly from these books, as she has delays in a couple of the areas that these books work on. I can't wait to see her improve her skills with them, I hope SL keeps these workbooks as long as they can because I will be devastated if I can't use them for all our children (we have 4 so far) They are absolutely worth the money, and even more I think! Kudos to Sonlight for finding such a wonderful workbook set to include in their program!

I attribute most of my daughter's development in Pre-K to these workbooks. As another reviewer stated, "These are not your average workbooks." You won't find anything like this at a major discount chain or teacher's store. Worth every penny and then some. Don't pass up.
