I purchased this book back in 2003 when my oldest was in K. Now my youngest is in K and it's still a favorite. We always have good discussions after reading a story from the book.
With the "too young" part, I believe the author didn't mean to offend, but most children won't be able to go to Africa, so for us, yes, we can send money and that's a great way for my children to be involved. Thank you for another great read aloud.

This book had a huge impact on our kids. An amazing introduction to missions and to Africa. Beautiful introduction to the concept of giving, and the power of prayer that are still fitting to the young age it's aimed at.
I'm adding to my original review from two years ago... since then my husband took a mission trip to Africa and we reread part of the book anytime we missed him. This book really helped the culture and missions work come alive for my kids.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I liked some of the stories but a couple I just cringed at. I realize this was written by SIM missionaries but I thought some of the stories were poorly written and seemed to advertise SIM. I guess I should say we are missionaries in Africa :) I didn't like how one of the stories says that the little girl is too young to go to Africa so she can send her money instead. Really? My 1,2 and 4 year old live in Africa and aren't "too young" to live here. I just didn't read that story to them because it would be too confusing. I can just hear them suggesting we move back and send our money instead. Maybe if we were living a typical American life this would be enlightening but since we are living this out it isn't as valuable to us.

I love this book. The only problem was being choked up as I read each story to my son. See Jesus work in the lives of others is beautiful. These stories are well written and should be a part of every preschoolers experience. We like it so much, I bought a few extra copies and I give them as gifts to four and five year olds.

A more challenging book in this curriculum. It was a great opporunity to talk about being a missionary and foreign lands.

This was one of our favorites this year. The stories brought out so many questions that made a mother's heart leap to answer.
