A Sonlight exclusive set of 27 booklets geared to the letters as learned. Stored in a handy slip cover box. Includes zany kid-friendly illustrations.

What if your young ones could successfully read entire books on their own? Would they be motivated to keep reading? You bet! Fun Tales is a unique series of 27 booklets that tells wacky stories through a progression of short, readable, phonetically correct sentences.

The first story uses only six simple sounds. By the final tale, your children will know all 26 letters. As you move through each book, your children meet fun animal friends and apply new letter sounds as they learn them.

Because of the strict progression, the vocabulary is rather limited. The resulting stories may sound silly to your adult ears, but rest assured: your children's sense of achievement as they finish each new book is worth it!

I was skeptical at first, but these readers are perfect for kids that are just starting to read. The information on the back of each reader is a really nice touch too. Today I learned that a group of rhinos is called a crash! Who knew? A great set of simple, beginning readers. I highly recommend them.

I would highly recommend these books for any child at the beginning of their reading journey. My 5 yr old son enjoyed the illustrations, the characters and the stories. The so-called 'beginning readers' in stores are impossible for a beginning reader to read. How can children be expected to read the long words?! The way Sonlight systematically takes students through one phonetic lesson at a time really works!!! My son was always very encouraged by his progress, as I was, and after getting to book #18 we decided he was well equipped to end the series early and has now moved up to Readers 1 with no problem. Thank you Sonlight!

These books were okay at the beginning of the year but now my daughter begs to read Cat in the Hat instead. I guess they are a little instulting to her intelligence.

My son (age 5) loves these books. We are now on book #10. He is always excited to get a new reader each week and to actually be able to read all of the words on his on. I highly recommend this series for those just learning to read.

First I want to state that I LOVE Sonlight. But about this product, I am disappointed. The illustrations are poorly done. For the majority of them my daughter and I have had to look at the picture on the back to try to figure out what the animal is supposed to be. They look second-rate, not high quality like most Sonlight materials. Many of the books include someone hitting, “bamming”, rapping or patting someone or something. And the characters regularly express anger (mad, having a fit). I seize the opportunity each time to talk about how the character ought to have responded, but it’s distracting to my new reader when she must constantly stop reading and say, “Mommy he shouldn’t be doing that, right?” I welcome examples of sin and misbehavior in the read-alouds as teaching tools, but wish they didn’t exist as much in these beginning readers. We have another set of books from a different company using the same basic letter progression without the anger and violence that we use a lot more.

by Heather J, Age 4, Book Review - Matt from "Fun Tales": This book is my favorite because Matt does silly things. My favorite part of the book is where he hits the mat. I think you will like it, because it is so funny and you want to be funny, too.

When I first opened Fun Tales as well as the curriculum guide, I was very disapointed. I was hoping the curriculum would give step by step intructions for each book. Instead it just says, "Read book number 3". However, after using using other reading guides that did give step by step instructions, my daughter was bored and frusterated by only learning how to read one word at a time instead of learning to read a real book. So, I gave the Fun Tales a try. I am so amazed at her progress and her excitement to read now! She is thrilled to read a whole book, even if it is small and simple. I highly recommend these books for your beginning reader.

x-post of the review I posted here: http://www.sonlight.com/KRP.html#reviews where Rachel M will find her negative review, btw. We loved these books. It was great finally getting books that they COULD read, that went along with LA K. I had been getting "preschool" readers from the library that introduced words that they just could not read yet! These books gave them confidence that they could read an entire book, even though they are short.

I find it interesting that the negative reviews have been removed....

I wish these books were in a font that looks like letters the kids are learning. Our big gripe with these has been that both my kids get to the "g" or a few of the other letters and don't know what they are.
