With Horizons Math K, your students will learn to:

  • Count by 1's, 5's, 10's, 2's, and 4's to 100
  • Recognize and write all families to 100
  • Add a single digit to, or subtract one from, all families without regrouping
  • Identify colors and shapes
  • Name the days of the week and more!

Horizons Math is designed to help your children understand math from the ground up.

Using a spiral learning technique, children are first introduced to a concept and then asked to solve related and increasingly difficult problems over the course of several days or weeks. The concept then re-emerges in later exercises for a new concept. This frees up the children's minds and does not overwhelm them with too much information. They feel confident because they get to take steady, measured steps, and as they revisit concepts over time, they continually strengthen and reinforce their existing knowledge base.

Each year's program consists of three pieces:
  • Two colorful, well-organized workbooks each with 80 lessons and 8 unit exams
  • Teacher's Handbook with daily lesson plans, answer keys, and final exams
  • 80 reproducible worksheets

My 5 year old daughter just completed this math and I am very pleased with it. Breaking up the tasks to do each day really makes math more manageable and less dull. The pages are colorful and easily torn out. I did like the teachers manual and would heartily recommend it- it did help me introduce concepts and helped to make sure we were still reviewing previously learned concepts though drilling flashcards, etc. Thats really an important part of the program. My daughter just turned 5 in april and it was not too difficult while being challenging enough. The only issue I had was we needed to only complete half a page each day as all the flashcards and the page were too much- however she was not quite K age so it may be a maturity issue and was easily resolved by doing 1/2 a sheet each day. I have waivered on a few of my homeschooling choices but not horizons math. We have already ordered the 1st grade book and look forward to getting started. I feel my daughter is not only adequately prepared for first grade but is even advanced for 1st grade math thanks to this curriculum.

Love this workbooks. My son loves the bright colors and the activities and since he can read already, he can zip through the lessons on his own. Do not waste your money on the Teachers guide. It is worthless and doesn't teach anything. Save your money and get the printed schedule from Sonlight which tells you the schedule and what items in your Math box supplies to use on that particular lesson instead. I wish I had.

I like the Horizon Math workbooks but I have been very disappointed in the teacher's guide. The teacher's guide gives very little instruction in introducing concepts. The guide is basically just a schedule and not worth the money.

Two years ago my husband and I sat down with several math programs to determine which one best teaches the subject of math. After looking through the programs we selected Horizons Math. Horizons math teaches math in a precept upon precept method. Mathematical concepts will be introduced and reviewed throughout the lessons so your child builds a strong foundation in math.
