I used this set of books with my daughter who was 5 and it really did explode with her! She quickly picked things up and within the year began on book 1! Now, I am back again to purchase for my 4 year old who is beginning to learn her letters and their sounds. We did this as a cutting and pasting activity and that was a lot of fun! (Printed out one page with a Aa in the middle then she cut out the letters and pasted them on the page.)

My son knew almost no letter sounds and certainly couldn't write his letters, but he did really well with this. The lessons are just the right length and just repetitive enough to stick.

My 4 year old really enjoyed Get Ready for the Code series. A lot of it was review, but it allowed her to do school with her older sister. She was able to be successful with minimum supervision from mom. We will use again with the next child is 4!

I found this workbook to be just busy work, and redundant of what was going on in the Language Arts K Instructor's Guide. Also, it didn't take long for my son to memorize which picture went with which letter, and then he was no longer paying attention to the sounds. The activities in the LAK IG were better because they really focused on the sounds without so much picture-cues. I didn't buy the other 2 books in this set and I don't plan to do so. I found this one to be unnecessary and unhelpful, and my son didn't enjoy it enough to be worth it either.

Excellent book--more than "optional", I found these books the most indispensible part of language arts. Teaches all the consonents & sounds in the alphabet These books can easily double for a writing curriculum as well. Fun workbook activities that my kids greatly enjoyed.
