Developed by a registered occupational therapist, Handwriting Without Tears is a developmentally-based handwriting program. That means it pays attention, in a way that no other program we know does, to the developmental needs of people — of whatever age — who are trying to learn how to write.
Teaches the basic connections used in cursive writing and provides help for identifying and overcoming problems. Students learn to write neatly, with speed and confidence. Lowercase letters are taught first.
Includes Teacher's Guide, student workbook, 3/8" ruled practice paper and four adhesive strips to stick to desks to give students visual clues for letter formation.

LOVE IT - LOVE IT - LOVE IT!!!
My second grader had been using another program that was very 'advanced' and expected adult type of penmanship from very young children. My daughter loves this program! She has actualy completed the book in three months.

I bought this program for my daughter this year because I was also purchasing HWOT for my son (who is in K). I liked what I saw in the K package, so I figured that I would stick with this program for all my kids to simplify things. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed with this entire program in general. There are a few things I think are great--the very deliberate and helpful instructions in the student workbook that take things one step at a time, the extra practice and "Silly Spelling" test ideas, the introduction of certain letters at certain times (not going in alphabetical order). But there are too many drawbacks for me--the main one being that I should have gone with my gut because I do not like the look of this script in action! I understand that their upright letters were created to be easier on kids, but I feel like their version of cursive is forced and awkward. I will not be teaching my daughter any of their strange capital letters! I was willing to try the 2 lines system, but my children have found it to be more confusing because they have three lines included in other workbooks. And the teacher's book is the most useless book I have! The book spends more time selling you on the system (and trying to upsell other products) than it does giving you any hints, tips or advice. I will be looking for a new system for my younger children. I am sad that this didn't work out for us.

I have to say this program is amazing. My, 10 yr old, son was diagnosed with dysgraphia and has struggled with handwriting. He forms all his letters from the line up (my bottom-up writer). His OT (occupational therapist) started him on this program and we were AMAZED. His handwriting is beautiful. I cannot say enough about this program!

This worked wonders for my son who was struggling with handwriting using another more conventional approach i.e. letter and page slanting and lots of fancy loops. He started really wanting to write in cursive after he completed this program.
