Horizons Math is designed to help your children understand math from the ground up.
Using a spiral learning technique, children are first introduced to a concept and then asked to solve related and increasingly difficult problems over the course of several days or weeks. The concept then re-emerges in later exercises for a new concept. This frees up the children's minds and does not overwhelm them with too much information. They feel confident because they get to take steady, measured steps, and as they revisit concepts over time, they continually strengthen and reinforce their existing knowledge base.
Each year's program consists of three pieces:
- Two colorful, well-organized workbooks each with 80 lessons and 8 unit exams
- Teacher's Handbook with daily lesson plans, answer keys, and final exams
- 80 reproducible worksheets
Teacher Friendly

My son and daughter are using the Horizon Math K and greatly enjoy it! My daughter wants to do mulitple lessons in one day and my son always looks ahead because he can't wait to see what he is going to do soon! Sometimes my son gets bored with completing his adding and subtracting problems in the workbook, so we just do it on the grease board! We've found by doing this he will figure the answers in his head rather than using the number strip all of the time.

We are using this math for our 2nd grade year with our daughter. This goes at a great pace and my daughter really enjoys her math lesson each day. We used the K last year during 1st grade and loves it also.

I used Horizon Math last year for my first grader. This is exactly how I was taught math in the 80's. It is very boring and relies a lot on the drilling of facts. My daughter dreaded math everyday (so did I). She was just going through the motions without understanding the reasons behind what she was learning. Toward the end of the year I switched to Right Start Math. I (we) could not be happier. Gone are the days of boring drills. They have been replaced by fun games. She can actually "see" math in her head now. I would not recommend Horizons unless math comes very naturally to your student. Even then, prepare for A LOT of practice.

My son is really enjoying the Horizon Math book. All the lessons are presented in a fun way, with lots of pictures. Everything is repeated so the child can remember and relearn things if they forgot. I highly enjoy teaching Horizons Math.
