History, told in a story-book style that covers the events from 500 BC to 400 AD, journeys from Ancient Mesopotamia through Egypt and Babylonia, to Greek culture and Ancient Rome. This fact-filled tome comes in a voice that is easy even for young children. Chapters in narrative form occasionally even include ancient fairy tales and thoughts of what life would be like for a child during that time period. Pb

My children and I thoroughly enjoyed Story of the World. They are great gateway books to history. They inspired my children to read more books about different events in history!

I liked the idea of the Story of The World books BUT so many things were just wrong. We switched and are using The Mystery of History by Linda Hobar instead of using these books!

I had heard so much about these I was very excited to have them included in Sonlight history. Then we started reading them. We are now on the fourth one and I will never read them again because I do not believe what she writes. The first flags that came up were in book 1 when she recounted bible history. I was reading along and just COULD NOT finish the "story". It was not an accurate account of God's Word. I put the book down and read the history from the Bible. (It's not that she just paraphrases either, she changes facts.) Okay, I thought, I'll only read the other history from the book and read all bible accounts from the bible BUT there is always this suspicion in the back of my mind...is this really true, her bible accounts aren't. Hmmm. Then we got to the Civil War account in Book 4, it contradicts what we learned in Sonlight American History when reading "The Landmark History of the American People." I want to have confidence in what I'm reading to my family and this author just doesn't give me any.

I like this book and so do my children. It is relaxing with interesting stories interspersed with the history. My children look forward to reading it.

I thought this was a good book, but both my daughter and I thought it was too simple and sounded too babyish for her age. She might of enjoyed it at 10 y/o (or younger), but not at 12 y/o.

SOTW is an excellant book. However I would caution against reading it to younger children. We began reading this for Core 1 but switched to CHOW when our daughter commented it was "too scary."
