Listen While You Learn About the Magic Words That Have Moved Mountains, Won Battles, and Made Us Laugh and Cry

This collection of 64 poems for children (from Homer to Wordsworth to Angelou) holds far more than most. First, readers learn about many forms of poetry--such as nursery rhyme, ballad, haiku, sonnet and more. They "meet" each poet in brief, lively mini-biographies. For days when you can't read aloud together, they can read along and listen to a professional actor read each selection on the companion CD. Fun and inviting.

I really like this book. Of all the children's poetry books we have done with Sonlight, my kids and I like this one best. It is a good solid intro. The instances of immodesty I noticed included Adam and Eve with private parts hidden behind leaves, a Barbie-type doll with a one-piece swimsuit, and a nude goblin or gargoyle type creature portrayed as a flesh-colored statue with no definite private parts. Some may be offended by it, but my daughter (10) did not seem to notice it. After trudging through many poetry books that my kids did not appreciate, this one was delightful.

I enjoy this poetry book and the simple explanations given for each type of poetry. My children looked forward to their poetry lesson each week.

I feel the artwork is sloppy and it has more than its share of immodestly drawn people, which my children were also bothered by. I give it three stars because the poetry itself is decently introduced. Not a keeper though.

Perfect introduction to the different genres of poetry for elementary students. My nine-year-old loves the explanations and the readings of the poems on CD.
