My favorite book I have read this year was Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes. This book has a lot of adventure in it. My favorite part was probably when he became a Son of Liberty and participated in the Boston Tea Party. The book makes you feel excited, nervous, and curious. One of the best things about the book is that even though it is exciting and based on true events, reading this book made me feel like I had lived in Revolutionary Boston.

I actually agree with Philip H. It was just a great book but often I felt like the kids weren't quite GETTING it. Nonetheless, how do you teach on the American Revolution without it? It's a classic.

Not a good choice of book for this age group as there are just too many words, phrases, and concepts that need extensive explanation, making the reading overly cumbersome with a significant loss of continuity.

Johnny Tremain caught my attention because it was a great action ,spy, and historical book. It was so well written that I could picture every scene in my head. My favorite part was when Johnny, even though his hand was crippled, went and helped fight at Lexington . This book made me realize how much bravery my ancestors must had to have to stand up to the most powerful nation in the world, and fight for their freedom . when I realized this it made me proud to be an american.
Johnny Tremain is about a boy apprenticed to a silversmith who crippled his hand while working with silver. Soon he became an instrumental spy for the Yankees.
If you like action suspense, with a little history sprinkled on top, than you will like Johnny Tremain.

My girls and I LOVED this book. It's suspenseful, dramatic, thought- and discussion-provoking, and just really well written. I wish they would remake the movie--we checked it out of our library and it left so much out that we felt deflated.

In Johnny Tremain there are some of my favorite historical happenings and characters before the Revolutionary War. For instance: Paul Revere, the Boston Tea Party, etc.
My favorite parts were, first, when Johnny meets and talks to Paul Revere, and second, when he goes and fights right after the Battle of Lexington.
This book is a little bit sad at the end, but otherwise, it’s TOTALLY AWESOME!
The reason I think you should read this book is because of all the revolutionary characters and happenings, for instance: the Boston Tea Party, the Battle of Lexington, and, of course, Paul Revere.

Did you ever wonder what happened just before Lexington and Concord? What did “one if by land, two if by sea” really mean? Well, I know both because I read Johnny Tremain. It is a very good book about a fictional character caught up in the things that happened in Boston, Massachusetts just before the Revolutionary War. It was written by Esther Forbes, illustrated by Linda Ward and published by Dell Publishing Group in 1987.
This book was my favorite because it captured my attention. It was filled with action and suspense. There was a lot of spying and the patriots met in a secret room to talk about how to be free from England. The main character, Johnny, is 12 years old. I like the fact that he is around my age.
My favorite part of the book is his friendship with Rab. He is an apprentice at a printing shop and also a part of the secret society that plans against the British. Rab is kind to Johnny by giving him food and a bed to sleep in. Together, they print the newspaper and serve the secret society.
This book made me feel many different emotions. The fight for freedom was very exciting. When the his family did not accept him, it made me angry. It was sad when Rab died in battle but I felt hopeful that the patriots would win the fight for freedom. I was encouraged that the patriot leaders thought our revolution would cause people all around the world who had been mistreated to fight for their freedom too.
I think you will want to read this book for several reasons. It inspired me to learn more about the American Revolution. It had facts about that time in history that you discover by reading about Johnny Tremain. Through his adventures, you experience how spies did their job. When the British come to Boston, there are many exciting events. This book shows Johnny’s faithful friendship with Rab and friendship is important.

My favorite book from Sonlight Curriculum this year was Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes. The book begins in Boston in the year 1773, about the time of the Revolutionary War. A young boy named Johnny Tremain found himself in a whale of a tale, from his tragic accident in a silversmith shop, to him taking part in the Revolutionary War! This book is my favorite because it has all the things I like about a book- action, drama, and suspense, but just enough to keep things interesting. My favorite part of the book was when Johnny opened his sack to find that he had not been supplied with bronze, but silver. This book made me feel excited, not sure what will happen next, and ready for more! I think you'll want to read this book because it has mystery, intrigue, and excitement all packed in a historical tale about an amazing boy! by Benjamin age 9

Johnny Tremain is my favorite book from Core 3. It was such a good book because it was full of action, excitement, and history(but in a fun way). By reading this book I learned more about the time period leading up to the Revolutionary War. Through Johnny's eyes we learn what it is like to be an orphan, have a bad injury, and be alone in the world. This book was so good even my Dad wanted to listen to it.
