Loved this book.

I feel that this is a wonderful book. Though there is a lot of nudity, especially in the beginning, it's historically accurate nudity and helps to teach children not to be ashamed of their bodies. Children don't think of being nude as being wrong. It's only once we teach them such a thing that they come to understand it. I think that by teaching them that nudity is wrong is somewhat stealing their innocence from them.

I am not impressed with this book. Nudity, evolution, there are better books out there that convey world history to children.

We LOVE this book. It adds so much to the core, and if the nudity of everyday life in ancient times disturbs you, then many would get a Sharpie and add some clothes. The book is worth it even if you have to Sharpie it up. There aren't many books out there to cover this information that is interesting and engaging for 1-3 graders. We have girls, so the breasts do not bother me, and I may have a different opinion if I had a boy. The information and the illustrations are fascinating and cover so much of ancient history in a child-friendly way, it is not to be missed.

It's interesting to note that I'm not the only one who has a problem with nudity. Artwork, fine. We go to a museum, we see nudity, ok.. I get that. But, choosing to put people in their everyday setting doing ordinary tasks like cooking food or fighting???? NAKED? unnecessary. Even in illustration form, nudity is unnecessary. Loin clothes would make the point just as clear. If the woman has to be naked, put her behind a tree or put a pot in front of her chest. GOD himself made clothes for Adam & Eve and hum and have worn them ever since.

I have read the reviews, and am surprised. Do you skip past precious art work in museums too? Nudity is not a problem. It is the way God made us and we should learn to respect it for what it is and learn not to abuse it. Just teach your children the facts and when they get older they won't be shy and have peer pressure rule them from all the other children who are being raised that nudity is something to be ashamed of, or to abuse it. As it was in the beginning, Adam and Eve were not ashamed of themselves. It wasn't until Satan put them in the situation that they were punished to know shame. Don't put shame into your children. Teach them how to respect it now and they won't grow up "giggling". I personally look forward to this book, and the opportunity to teach my girls proper respect for the human body, and not to be ashamed of it.

After reading some of the reviews, we had decided not to get this book but, we changed our mind later and got it after 4months into the school term. We are really glad that we got it as my son is really enjoying it and we have learned so much from this book. The events and timeline in this book does not contradict the Bible in any way. We just coloured in some of the nude illustrations and we didn't make a big deal out of it. This book goes along with the Childs Book of History very well and I highly recommend it.

I hs my seven yr old son. The nudity doesn't "offend" me, but it sure has made it an issue every time we come across it. (snickering) I am not fan regardless. It is just all over the place, hard for us to follow along and read. It skips all over the page. Doesn't seem to fit in with a christian curriculum in my opinion. We are in week 24, and I have decided to not even use this book anymore. I feel the same way about the other Usborne book I received, for Science.

We didn't even start using this book due to the nudity in it. I originally thought that I would just color over the inappropriate pictures, but I would have been coloring on a great portion of the book. It's just inappropriate. I am VERY disappointed in Sonlight for including this book in a curriculum for young children. I feel that my trust in Sonlight has been hastily removed and I am very sad about that.

I am reviewing this book before we have even finished. I agree with Bethany about the nudity issue and want to guard the hearts of my children. I encourage all parents to read her review. I covered the nude pictures with a black marker, so the nudity is no longer there. My problem with this book is calling it history. How can I possibly trust all the information to be factual when it presents so many untrue things in the very beginning. On page 4 it says "gradually people realized that seeds dropped on the ground grew into plants"....really? I believe that God taught Adam all about seeds when He placed him in the Garden of Eden to "dress it and keep it" Genesis 2:15 The Bible is our standard and everything is to be measured against it.
