This book is awesome! This book encourages my kids to have a love of poetry & a desire to experiment with creative writing. It's great!

My daughter loves this book. She is always begging to read more every time I get it out!

This is a very unusual poetry book. When our Core came there was a letter explaining the choice of this book. Once I read that I had a greater understanding and appreciation for this book. My 8 year old son really enjoys it and instead of following the schedule we just read several pages in one sitting and he just wants to keep going!! Always nice when that happens!!

Our whole family loved the uniqueness of this book and it exposed our boys (8 & 5) to a different kind of poetry. There always seemed to be someone giggling when we read from this book and there were constant requests for re-reads of previously read poems. My 5 year old even used some of the poems for copywork (at his request) & drew pictures to go along with it. Overall, I think it was great how it showed how to think "out of the box" on common, ordinary things. Great pick Sonlight!!

The only reason this got 1 star is because my children had one poem in it they liked and they didn't want to rate it the same as poke in the eye (which was universally despised at my house.) Save your money and skip this one.

Cornstalks has introduced a different kind of poetry to our family. It takes the mundane and asks you look at it in a different way. Aside from teaching my children that poetry doesn't have to rhyme, these poems and illustrations have generated much discussion and giggles in our house. Thankyou Sonlight for a great book.

I wasn't impressed with this - not really poetry, just thoughts.

I was hoping to buy used to save money and couldn't find this exact book so I bought the 4 separate books that make up the cornstalks bushel of poems. These "poems" are more like things you read on bathroom stalls or on silly peoples facebook statuses. If I bought this book new I would return it. I may just let the kids color in it. I honestly can't believe Sonlight would change from A Garden of Verses to this. Not even comparable.

My kids always want me to read the poems from this book again and again. They're whimsical and can be enjoyed at different levels. We love the way the pictures and the poems work together. It's fun to experience a different kind of poetry than we read in Core 1. We love the diversity!

Interesting, but I miss A Child's Garden of Verses, the former poetry text for this core. I don't think kids this age are ready for such abstract "poetry."
