Horrible! We have used Singapore the entire way up till now. The workbook exercises and test problems have problems on them that haven't even been gone over in the examples and there are no "how-to"s in the teachers manual either. For example, on test 2, it starts off with a problem raised to a negative power. ??? I am good at math but have forgotten a lot of things and there was nothing to jog my memory on this. Ridiculous! I LOVE math but this level of singapore is sending us looking into another math program. Very sorry to leave Singapore too. Oh well. Don't want my kids to end up hating math. FAir warning.

We have used it all. Started with ABeka, Saxon, and many others. Our Second was more math challenged and we took 1/2 a year off to play "Games with Math" for time to give her a non-stress way of learning. Then we found Singapore. We tested her and put her in the level they recommended (2nd grade) and she has done it non-stop since. We started our 3rd child with Singapore and have no regrets. She's a 9 year old 1/2 way through the 4th grade curriculum and loves it. Depending on the learner, it may be necessary for parents to help, but it is one of the best Math programs around.

I have used several math programs including Miquon, Developmental Math, Horizons, Saxon (didn't like), Jacobs, Foerster for advanced algebra and trig. We started Singapore at level 5A with our third child because it provided more challenge than other options. I think this is a GREAT curriculum but definitely requires help from the parent and is for a serious math student. Sometimes we encounter problems that stump us, and we may come back to them another day. That in itself can be a growing experience. Everything is not always easy, but perseverence leads to satisfaction and sense of real accomplishment. I look forward to doing math using this material. We did not start homeschooling until my oldest was in ninth grade which accounts for our discovering Singapore rather late. The oldest is now a junior in college majoring in accounting, and the second is a senior in high school taking his classes this year at a branch of Kent State University. I say this not to be snobby but just to indicate that we really strive for excellence in our home. Hope this helps anyone who is thinking about using this math. I guess in response to the previous review, I would just encourage people to try it and not give up. It might seem hard at times, but it's worth the effort.

I liked the program in theory, however, it was our first year using Singapore and we were not able to continue through the year. The concepts were not explained well, and the teachers manual gave no information as to "how" problems should be worked out. I found myself going to the answer book and having to work all the problems in reverse, then going over them with my son. Maybe if we had done the previous years with Singapore we would have been better prepared for their method of teaching? I ended up going back to Saxon.
