Sigurd, a Viking boy, cannot see the value of learning to read and write. All he can think of is adventure. But then he has an adventure that he cannot help but tell. And to do that, he decides, he must learn to write. A fine story for young readers.

Viking Adventure was written Clyde Robert Bulla and illustrated by Douglas Gorsline. The main characters are Siguard, Olaf, Gorm, and Halfred. Siguard is the son, Olaf is the dad, Gorm is Olaf's friend, and Halfred is a person with a ship. Olaf trains Siguard how to fight, but there is no one around to fight. So, his dad goes on a journey to a different place to bring back somebody for Siguard to fight. Then Gorm comes and asks Olaf if he wants to sail to Wineland, but Olaf says he has a wound so he can't go. Siguard goes with a servant to go ask Gorm if he can sail with him and by the time they get there it is almost morning. Gorm tells him he has to lift a testing stone. If he can lift it, he can go on the ship. Siguard is able to lift the stone, so he is able to go on the ship to Wineland. It's called Viking Adventure because they have a couple of adventures when they get to Wineland. When Siguard returns home, there is a surprise waiting for him. This was my favorite book this year because it has lots of adventure and it was very interesting. (by Austin, age 9)

My daughter loved this book. She didn't want to put it down. The best was watching her eyes bug out when she started to realize who really was the bad guy. Fiction reading at its finest!

My favorite book is Viking Adventure, by Clyde Robert Bulla. Viking Adventure is about a boy named Sigurd. He went to sea with his father's friend named Gorm. They wanted to go to "Wineland." When he grew up he wanted to have adventures and it happened. The book made me feel like I want to go sailing, too! I read this book many times, and you will want to, too! --Elizabeth B., 2nd Grade--

Siguard was a young adventurist. He went away to Wineland and came home after his father dies. He is now the head of the house and his life is filled with adventure, surprise and excitment.
