This is a great math program for kids who like to be challenged but who don't want to be overwhelmed. I am a math ignoramus and so I found it difficult to teach concepts such as fractions and multiplication by the end of level 2, and I was silly and didn't get the HIG. I will definitely be investing in the HIG for level 3! The textbooks are good for introducing concepts but they don't really explain what is being taught, and there are no solutions to the given problems to help explain. My son has developed his mental math ability a great deal since starting this program which is really neat. One thing that bothers me is that certain topics aren't covered, Roman Numerals for example, and memorization of math facts is sort of built in to the lessons, but is not emphasized in any other way. I definitely recommend supplementing with flash cards and fun math games for memorizing the times tables, doubles facts, etc.

We have been very happy with this curriculum. Concrete representations and activities included in the instructor's guide help establish understanding of the concepts presented. We did not find the textbooks to be of much use.
