My daughter used these readers a few years ago and did wonderful. She enjoyed reading and I felt they were great books. This year my son however just was not interested in the I Can Read books. He did enjoy the rest of the books though. We set the I Can Read books aside for later and found others to use in their place. Overall, I would recomend this readers package!

I got these after completing short vowel sounds with my 5 year old son and not sure where to go after the Fun Tales. He is almost done with the 2nd I Can Read It! book and loves the stories. The word progression is perfect and repeated enough for him to remember the sight words! Thank you Sonlight!

My son was a bit slow learning to read. Nothing really clicked for him until he started using the I Can Read It books. He was extremely thrilled to be able to read a "real" book by himself! True, these books can be awkward, but my son thought they were hilarious and he read and re-read them many times. These books gave him what he needed to be a confident reader and now a year later I'm so happy to say he's reading anything he can get his hands on!

The whole I Can Read It! series is amazing. My son started out knowing phonics but not yet knowing how to read anything so it was right at his level, (Kindergarten year). I was really impressed with the progression and thought the pace was just a tad quicker than what my son could handle in the beginning but he ended up finishing the last three months of reading in a period of about 2 weeks. Not my idea, but since he was really hating reading at the start, and had made this drastic change of wanting to read everything, I went ahead and let him finish it off so now we have to try and find more books at him from the library. I definitely credit this series to his success and plan on getting the intermediate 2nd readers next.

I understand the mixed reviews I see regarding the "I Can Read It!" books. They did not work for my older son, but he was an extremely early reader and was beyond this beginning level by the time I bought them. I recently got them out for my younger son and he is enjoying them very much and progressing quickly. I think so much depends on the age of the child when he/she is beginning to read. My younger son is still in the "decoding" stage, so the repetitions and silliness don't bother him and he is so proud that he can read an entire story by himself.

When my oldest was 7, we were reading sight reader books and other reader books, and my son was having a hard time. I had no idea how to go about picking books for him to read. I looked at a lot of different programs. Half way through our school year (last March) I ordered these books, and what a difference they have made. Especially the I Can Read It! books. Reading those gave my son more confidence and increased his ability to read. When I suggested he skip the first one he said he wanted to go ahead and start with it. He really liked them, and couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. He finished all the books before Christmas and we have started on Readers 2 Easy. This is a great reading program and I highly recommend it.

I really don't want to say anything critical of Sonlight, but we haven't had a great experience with the "I Can Read It!" series. My son is a fluent reader, but he stumbled and stuttered over the repetitive (sometimes seeming) nonsense words. I have decided to use easy reader books from the library to get us through, and we're also doing Explode the Code.

Sonlight's "I Can Read It!" books are pretty dreadful. My two boys really struggled to understand the story with such awful wording. (See Rebecca C's comment, the sentences are terrible!) I didn't enjoy them either, and after struggling through them for several weeks, decided to ditch them completely. I turned to "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" (purchased on Amazon) while still using and adapting some of the worksheet activities Sonlight provided in the package. The other 9 books in the package are fantastic.

We love the I Can Read It series! Very logically laid out, not too long, and specifically designed to avoid frustration and burnout! Love it!

We loved all the readers EXCEPT the I Can Read It! series. My son (and I) found them extremely boring, and couldn't get past the 1st 20 pages.
