Sharen S wrote: " I Can Read It! is structured so logically that when my son bogged down, I knew exactly where he needed help! As he and I read the I Can Read It! books together, the stories made us laugh. The word list book (Volume 4) assisted us in knowing some of the basic rules of the English language. The whole series was well-organized and helped us to recognize there is a logic to the process of reading."
We are in our second year of Sonlight Language Arts with our 5-year-old daughter. I introduced the I Can Read It! readers to my daughter this week and noticed when I woke her up this morning that she had slept with them! Then, when I went to the page today that we had left off on yesterday, she said "No, mommy, I read that last night. I'm on page 20!" I explained to her that I still wanted to hear her read them aloud to me and she was good with that.
I can't explain the joy of hearing my daughter read for the first time, the look of pride on her face and knowing that we did it together! I guess that's what homeschooling is all about!

I enjoyed the revised version of these books. We have the original, but my son really liked the humor and artwork of these new ones.

We LOVE these books! My daughter giggles over some of the word choices. It is refreshing to find phonics based readers that are actually interesting! Great job!

I am an Adult Basic Education Tutor with the National Literacy program. The I can Read It book that I found at a second hand store is perfect for two special students I have that now, in their 40's are just beginning to learn to read. It teaches in a gradual and commonsense way. If a former special student can learn to read, then this book can help anyone. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
them and provides step by step gradual increases
in words.

My 7 year old has been struggling with reading. She found the HOP books to be boring and therefore they were not worth putting the extra effort into reading. She is now very interested in learning to read with the I can read it book. She can't wait to find out what happens next with Pat and Nat. She practices reading them so that she can share the story with her younger siblings. Thank you for these stories that are worth reading.

It is very difficult to find beginner books that meet the criteria of being beginners (no words that don't follow beginner phonics rules) and also help to advance your child to read other things with confidence. I have looked high and low for such books without much success. My ten year old never struggled with reading and probably reads better than I. My seven year old, however, does struggle. He nearly refuses to progress in his reading because he would pick up a book and the amount of words on the page would overwhelm him. It was a real challenge for me to find material to help him gain confidence and grow his endurance. I decided to try this set of books. Honestly, I never expected the results I have gotten. My son started slow through the first book but within a month he progressed to reading a weeks worth of stories in fifteen minutes. He has started to pick up more advanced books off his shelf to read them. Tonight he brought me Green Eggs and Ham and begged me to let him read it to me. I had my doubts because about six months ago it had taken us three long nights to get through it, and it was an hour past bedtime. Not wanting to discourage him I agreed. He read with a confidence that brought tears to my eyes and he read it in twenty minutes! I thank God that He gave Mr. Holzmann the vision and ability to write something that would help kids who struggle with reading. They are three books that really don't look like anything special but further kids endurance and confidence which is critical to reading success. I would not waste my money on anything else other than this program.

I used these with my first child 4 years ago and now am using them with my second. Even though both are different learners I have found these books to work extremely well with both children. Having started with just a knowledge of the letters and sounds in August my son is now reading with confidence and knows so many sight words. This reading program is simply the best thing out there in my opinion. It is so easy to use. Thank you Sonlight for putting in the time to produce a great product!

I am now teaching my third child to read with the "I Can Read It" series. My first child learned from the intial single volume. My second child used both the single volume and the four book series. My third child is using the new 2008 "color" edition. This series just keeps getting better.

As soon as our "I Can Read It" books came in, my daughter snatched them up and went away to read her 'big girl' books. She loves them so much! I was curious as to the content and read ahead--I am very excited about the thought that was put into these books in regard to plot. They are funny and engaging! Great job, Sonlight!

My six-year-old was struggling with reading until our box of Sonlight supplies arrived. When she asked what the I Can Read It books were I told her they were hers. She promptly sat down with the first book, opened, it and started reading! Thank you, Sonlight!
