There are days that a hurricane apparently ripped through my house and left all spaces in upheaval.
On those days, I find a spot in the house, clean it up, and look at it for a bit. This one spot is a visual rest and emotional reset.
If you’ve ever gone into the bathroom and locked the door, and left the crying children standing in the hall, you know the principle. Sometimes you just need a bit of space to sink into, so that you can carry on.
So if you haven’t decluttered your whole house, find one corner that has pictures you like, or wall color you like, and a chair or cushion you like. And know that that spot is your retreat.
Jesus understands this feeling, I think. In Mark 1, we find him in Capernaum, healing all those who came, from sunset on into the night.
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”
After he was in the press, Jesus went away, by himself, to the quiet.
You might feel that need, too. May you have the time and space to enter in to rest, enough to carry on for this day.
