Recycling - Just one of our Responsibilities

At Sonlight, in addition to providing your family with the best home education materials, we also strive to take environmental responsibility and sustain the resources we've been so graciously given. Here are a few of the steps we're taking to make sure our goal of conducting business in an environmentally responsible manner is met:

The biggest items we recycle are the shipping boxes in which our products arrive. Since we began recycling the boxes, our trash levels have dropped significantly! At first glance, it may not seem like much, but since we started recycling boxes, the equivalent of four or more large trash bins a week are no longer winding up in a landfill.

In 2005, we switched from peanuts to recycled paper to pack all our shipments. While the expense for the paper material is a bit greater than the expense for peanuts, we determined that the expense was worth the convenience to our customers and the help to the environment. We have reduced the clutter of the peanuts, removed the choking hazard that was present for some small children, and eliminated an eyesore — peanuts were so clingy they just lingered and lingered. The paper we now use is just as helpful in safeguarding shipments, does not contribute to any of the above concerns, AND is fully recyclable.
