Joy H of Lehigh Acres, FL writes: "We started Sonlight after trying a workbook type curriculum that was leaving us all frustrated. Sonlight's Readers and Read-Alouds capture the Graham's attention despite his ADHD diagnosis. When prompted to write a paragraph about a favorite character or book, he has a difficult time choosing just one!" Here, Graham (9) and his dad enjoy a funny poem from Cornstalks in Sonlight C. Now that he likes his homeschool, Graham particularly looks forward to this book every week.
I'm so thankful for Sonlight's Language Arts guidance. We kept plugging away and I took faith in the tips and pointers (and Ruth Beechick's book). I won't forget the week everything seemed to brighten and I wasn't 'making' Zeke read anymore. He now says reading is his favorite! Here, Zeke (7, Core C) and Amelia (4, Pre-Kindergarten Multi-Subject) think little sister Isabella's hair looks like Ping from Little Pear [Core B].
"I am so thankful that I can spend my time working with my children rather than planning lessons," says Amanda T of Port Matilda, PA. "If I had a curriculum that required a lot of extra time finding books or coordinating themed activities, I know I wouldn't be consistent and I would burn out." In addition to easy lesson planning, Amanda says she has seen a huge change in her children's relationship. In this photo, taken two years ago, Charlotte (now 10 and studying HBL F) leaves a sweet message for her sister Grace (now 6, HBL B). "We wanted to be able to place a priority on honoring God in our schooling. With Sonlight, I see our children spending time learning about the Lord and growing in love for one another." The T family has been Sonlighting for as long as they've homeschooled: three years.

The Instructor's Handbook contains an introduction to the philosophy behind Spelling You See and the five developmental stages of spelling. The Handbook also contains a "Getting Started" guide and detailed instructions for each lesson, including suggested activities that coordinate with the weekly Spotlight. At the back of the Handbook there is more information about each activity, answers to frequently asked questions, the passages for dictation, and an answer key.
