The first in this series of 12 guided readers. (Not sure what this means? See below.)
Ten short stories about a family of five and the things they like to do. But what will happen when one of the girls chooses to disobey? Cheery stories with simple, laugh out loud drama. Bright, full color illustrations.
Assign them books that are too challenging for them.
Use Happy Cheetah guided readers.
Guided reading is a method of teaching reading, where students read books with about 90 to 94 percent accuracy. This amount of uncertainty, when done with a supportive instructor, offers enough challenge that students remain engaged, and enough success that students remain confident. Guided reading allows students to start to read real stories almost immediately.
The 120 guided reader stories in the complete Happy Cheetah program begin with simple words and short sentences, all carefully formatted for maximum clarity. Illustrations support the text. (It's not cheating to allow a student to look at the pictures! Good readers use all the clues they can to figure out the meaning.)
As students progress, the stories gradually lengthen, as they increase in complexity, introduce new vocabulary, and explore different genres.
No sounding out, no guessing. Just capable reading with some accurate predicting for less familiar words.
