I discovered Sonlight 16 years ago and boy, am I glad I did! The high interest level of Sonlight books have given my active boys (and my more tranquil daughter) the opportunity to hear and learn from great books even if they couldn't sit still very long. Even in high school, we choose some books to read aloud because we enjoy books together and it has become part of our DNA. Although this photo is staged, 17-year-old Nathaniel really can maneuver a soccer ball while he reads or listens to Christie read. He is studying Core 300 and British Literature in his twelfth and final year of Sonlight. His three older siblings all used Sonlight from 6th grade through high school, graduated college, and are now working.
Sonlight takes learning to a whole new level by combining story-telling, drama and intimate student-teacher interaction instead of just memorizing boring facts. The family lives on a rural island in the Andaman Sea off southern Thailand, where they work among the Moken Sea Gypsies. With Sonlight, we're free from the bounds of the traditional classroom. Since Denalyn and Alyssa love acting and singing, we often encourage them to sing or act out various roles from the many stories they read. The Moken children love to join in our homeschooling sessions. Our two girls have been using the curriculum for two years now and absolutely love it! Denalyn is on Core F and Alyssa is working through Core B. Here, Cally, Alyssa (7) and friends Chanap and Phen cheer on Denalyn (11) as she delivers her best impersonation of the famous Gettysburg address.

"Using Sonlight really helps keep our homeschool days relaxed," says Jana M of Searcy, AR. "The Instructor's Guides are easy to use and allow us to move at our own pace. I especially love the detail in the IGs, allowing me to enrich my son's learning with more detail and biblical references. Visual aids like the Markable Map also make such a difference, since Kage is a visual learner." Here, Kage (6, First Grade ASP) labels the continents on his Markable Map.

The only biography that has ever received the Newbery Medal. Beautifully written text combined with photos bring Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War President, very much to life.
