Sonlight has instilled a love of learning and curiosity about God's world in our daughters. When Afton was in public school, she hated to read (and, that's an understatement!). It must have been the content because ever since schooling with Sonlight, she has a tremendous love for reading and a deep love for history. Through rich literature, our daughters are able to learn about historically significant events, people, and places in a fun and engaging way. Who am I kidding? I'm learning right alongside them! Here, Afton (14) and Anja (11) read their Core G books with Grandma and Grandpa … who love Sonlight books too!
"Sonlight's rich historical novels birthed a desire in Rebecca to one day write a book of her own," writes Beth W of Flowery Branch, GA. "At age 15, she wrote White Star, an historical fiction fantasy based on true events surrounding the Titanic. When she was 18, the book was published. 'I owe my passion for history and writing to Sonlight,' says Rebecca. 'During my impressionable middle school years, Sonlight exposed me to rich classics and thrilling novels that made history come alive. Thank you for inspiring me to create and write.'" Here, the young author, who studied with Sonlight from 5th through 10th grade, proudly displays her work. Today, she promotes her book at signings and speaks to children about creative writing, the editing process and how she became published.
We all love Sonlight for so many reasons, but one of the main reasons is that our kids have time to be KIDS! I'm so thankful that with the carefully laid-out schedule and quality Christ-based education, we can get a solid education and still have time for unstructured, creative play. Not only do they have time for academics, but they also have time to explore God's creation firsthand, not just in a book between overscheduled activities. Here, Steven (7, Core B) and Megan (4, Core A) do just that!
