"I was so excited when I browsed my first Sonlight catalog and saw they included Handwriting Without Tears," writes Melissa N of Chittenango, NY. "I was already working with Handwriting Without Tears when our first Sonlight materials arrived and found integrating the Sonlight Language Arts for Grade K Readers program into what we were already doing an easy transition. Thank you Sonlight for recognizing that every child is different and for giving parents a variety of options to choose from!" Here, Sawyer (5) and Coen (3) work with the Handwriting Without Tears manipulatives in their second year of Sonlight.
"We discovered Sonlight this year, after a friend recommended it to us, and can't believe the difference it has made. We particularly appreciate how Sonlight makes it possible for various ages to learn together. We have watched our children's relationships blossom and grow as we concentrate less on finding resources and more on enjoying quality time together as a family. This is what homeschooling is supposed to be! Here, Alexander (9) beats the heat and enjoys a good book from Core G." – Denise A, Cambodia
"The kids always look forward to Box Day, but as a Sonlight mom, I'm most excited for Catalog Day!" writes Michelle S of College Station, TX. "We originally decided to homeschool to strengthen the bonds between our kids. After 5 years, we are so grateful to have kids who enjoy learning together. We are so glad we chose Sonlight to foster that closeness!" Pictured, Michelle researches what next year with Sonlight will bring.

This Reader package includes books at a fifth-grade reading level, but with content gentle enough for young readers. Your children will adventure in New York City, discover the secrets of a Civil War soldier, travel with a whale who is unable to speak to other whales, continue to develop a love of books and reading, and much more.
The items listed below are included in the selected package. Add additional items to your cart as desired.
In this pure fun mystery, four children compete in the national candymaking competition of a lifetime. The contestants face off in a battle of wits and sugar, but soon find themselves in a mystery bigger than they imagined! A thrilling page-turner that delights with surprises, suspense, teamwork and friendship.
Based on a true story, All of the Above is the delightful and suspenseful story of four inner city students and their quest to build the world's largest tetrahedron. Weaving together the different personal stories of the kids, their teacher, and the community that surrounds them, award-winning author Shelley Pearsall has written a vividly engaging story about the math, life and good-tasting barbecue. Filled with unexpected humor, poignant characters, and quiet brilliance, All of the Above is a surprising gem.
In this Newbery Honor novel, New York Times bestselling author Rita Williams-Garcia tells the story of three sisters who travel to Oakland, California, in 1968 to meet the mother who abandoned them.
Growing up an orphan in an isolated cottage in the woods, young Terence never expected much adventure. But upon the arrival of Gawain, his life takes a surprising turn. Gawain is destined to become one of the most famous knights of the Round Table. Terence becomes Gawain's squire and leaves his secluded life for one of adventure in King Arthur's court. As he adjusts to his new life, he proves to be not only an able squire but also a keen observer of the absurdities around him. His duties take him on a quest with Gawain and on a journey of his own, to solve the mystery of his parentage. Filled with rapier-sharp wit, jousting jocularity, and chuckleheaded knights, this is King Arthur's court as never before experienced. Part of the Squire's Tales series.
Lovely, lovely new book by one of my favorite authors. When the estranged grandfather dies, he leaves an endowment: pay for his butler, and the purple Bentley, to go to the daughter-in-law and four remaining children, while she is short-handed due to her husband's deployment. Significant family trauma, but the butler says the right things. There is also the wildly improbable aspect of cricket (the game) taking over at the middle school. Charming.
Christian was clueless when he started spying on the royal family through his telescope. (He lives in a cave with a troll for a dad, after all.) If Dad had only warned him about all that mind-boggling love stuff, maybe things wouldn't be such a mess. Although then, maybe, Princess Marigold would be dead. But Christian wasn't warned. And now he's fallen for the princess ...
Although young Montague Mad-Rat lives in—or rather, under—New York City, he know very few rats besides his mother, who makes hats, his father, who builds mud castles, and his globe-trotting Aunt Elizabeth. But Montague's life takes an abrupt turn for the eventful the stormy day he meets Isabel Moberly-Rat on his way home from Central Park.
Ari is an 11-year-old boy with a gift for music. By translating his early travels around Europe with his mother into pieces of music, Ari grows to realize that life is composed of many kinds of journeys, and accepting those journeys is part of finding your place in the world.
Winston Breen loves puzzles, and he finds them everywhere-books, newspapers, even pizzas. So when Winston and his sister find some strange puzzle pieces in an antique box, it's only natural that Winston try to find out where the box came from and what the words on the puzzle pieces might mean. Soon, Winston and his friends are hunting for a long-hidden treasure, accompanied by the town librarian, a giant ex-policeman, a pretty reporter, and a pair of mysterious strangers who arrive out of nowhere looking for the loot.
The Schneider Family Book Award-winning story of a deaf girl's connection to a whale whose song can't be heard by his species, and the journey she takes to help him.
Twelve-year-old Catherine just wants a normal life. Which is near impossible when you have a brother with autism and a family that revolves around his disability. She's spent years trying to teach David the rules from "a peach is not a funny-looking apple" to "keep your pants on in public" - in order to head off David's embarrassing behaviors.
When football player Chase gets amnesia, he returns to school with a new personality. He had been a bully. Can he navigate his way to a new life, new interests, and new relationships?
Eighteen months after a girl's mother died of cancer, her dad quickly marries the meanest teacher in school, and Violet acquires two step-siblings. She finds a hidden letter from her mom, with a list of things to do to celebrate Christmas. Good look at family, and how to deal with emotions and hurt feelings and pain and forgiveness. The climax is one of the most moving things I've read in quite a while. Really, really enjoyed it. Set in a warmer climate, where snow for Christmas is probably not going to happen.
Tristan is not gifted and talented like his sister Jeanine, and that's fine with him. But when the family moves to a middle of nowhere town, he determines to make and eat chocolate cream doughnuts. He has to get the recipe, make the doughnuts, and figure out how to run a doughnut stand business. Delightful and heart-warming to see how the town rallies around him.
