Description
  • Author: Edward Burger

Thinkwell's Precalculus with Edward Burger is the first next-generation Pre-Calculus text for college courses.

Thinkwell's Precalculus with Edward Burger is the first next-generation Pre-Calculus text for college courses. It communicates the fundamentals of Pre-Calculus to students using the engaging, interactive media they prefer and automatically reports on students' progress.

The Pre-Calculus multimedia (internet-based) tutorials contain a comprehensive series of multimedia video lectures, fully adaptable to any course syllabus.

A website customized to the specifications of a particular course hosts an online testing system, which allows extensive opportunity for practice and quizzing, and provides access to hundreds of pages of review notes, which summarize important points from the videos. The website also provides a forum for professors and students to communicate with one another. Professors can also access the Thinkwell gradebook to know how the class is doing on homework assignments.

Students will cover:

  • Basic Algebra Review
  • Equations and Inequalities
  • Relations and Functions
  • Polynomial and Rational Functions
  • Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
  • Trigonometric Functions
  • Trigonometric Identities
  • Applications of Trigonometry
  • Systems of Equations and Matrices
  • And other special topics

Features for Professors:

Comprehensive Video Tutorials

We've built Thinkwell's Pre-Calculus around a series of 334 multimedia tutorials (internet-based), providing 44 hours of instructional material. Compared with a traditional textbook, Thinkwell's offers a more engaging, more effective way for students to learn.

Rather than reading dense chunks of text for homework, students watch video lectures filled with illustrations, examples, even humor. Students report learning material more easily with Thinkwell than traditional textbooks.

Interactive Exercises with Feedback

Thinkwell's Pre-Calculus contains nearly 4000 exercise items with fully worked-out solutions and explanations for the right and wrong answers. Students can work on the exercises at the computer or print them out to work on later.

Once students enter their answers in the computer, the items are automatically graded and the results reported to professors.

Review Materials

While the online video lectures are the heart of Thinkwell products, we also offer concise, illustrated review notes, a glossary, transcripts of the video lectures, and links to relevant websites. All of these materials may be viewed online, and the notes and transcripts may be printed and kept for reference.

Thinkwell's Pre-Calculus also features dynamic Flash(tm) animations that explain difficult concepts like inverse trigonometric functions and converting between rectangular and polar coordinates in novel, easy-to-understand ways.

Access to all review materials is included in the price of the online access package.

Real-Life Applications

Students regularly complain that algebra and trigonometry have no bearing on their lives outside of class. Thinkwell's Pre-Calculus features video lectures that apply the material of the course to real-world problems and events, including determining the height of a building or the length of a tunnel using surveying techniques.
