Here’s an in depth look at what you’ll receive:
The Instructor's Guides include complete, 36-week lesson plans and notes that integrate your student’s various subjects into an exciting, unified learning experience. The Instructor's Guides weave all of the books and materials together into a cohesive full-year curriculum—it's your roadmap for the entire school year!
Starting with this upper-level program, courses are designed for more independent study. Each high school-level course includes both a Parent Guide and a separate Student Guide for History/Bible and Literature and Language Arts. Your Science program will include a Sonlight Schedule Plus or an Apologia Student Notebook. The Sonlight Schedule Plus provides the familiarity of Sonlight's Instructor's Guides for your Apologia course. Apologia’s Student Notebook includes your schedule and guides you through note-taking.
Your Parent Guide mirrors the Student Guide, but also includes answers, provides extra notes, and allows you to check your student’s progress and discuss their reading. This format allows you to be as engaged or as hands-off as you and your students like.
History, Geography & Biblical Studies
Discover 2,000 years of Christian heritage. This 36-week course seeks to give young people an understanding of their extended family of believers and their heritage as citizens of God's kingdom. It teaches both traditional Church History, as well as the expansion of the Gospel from the early days in the Roman Empire until now. Students learn about the creeds and schisms, the decrees and theses, the doctrines and denominations. It’s a history of the Church and the people in the Church.
Includes Sonlight’s History of the Christian Church 220 course.
The included Bible 210 program equips your students to understand, deepen and defend their faith. It will empower them to articulate the fundamental principles of Christianity, give them a new appreciation for the beauty and cohesiveness of the Bible, and help them consider Jesus as a real person with real implications for their lives.
Literature & Language Arts
The 10th grade All-Subjects Package includes the Classical Literature / Language Arts 230 course. This program includes stories set mostly chronologically through history, mostly by British authors. Students will travel from first-century Israel to World War II and beyond in this 36-week program. Includes an especially rich range of genres, with intellectually challenging books—coupled with delightful—books.
Fully integrated with the Literature, this year's Language Arts builds on past years and continues to develop literary analysis, creative writing, research, and essay skills, with weekly writing assignments in a range of lengths and topics.
Includes Science 250: High School Biology (Textbook Package without Microscope). This is an Apologia course designed for use at home and is presented in a conversational style, making it easy to understand. The primary topics included are a general introduction to biology; monerans (bacteria); protists (protozoans and algae); fungi; the chemistry of life (atoms, elements, molecules, osmosis and diffusion, photosynthesis, enzymes, etc.); cells; cellular reproduction and more.
Sonlight includes Math-U-See Algebra 2 in the 10th Grade All-Subjects Package. Math-U-See Algebra 2 covers topics such as factoring polynomials, quadratic formula, graphing conic sections and other algebra 2 topics.
Your students will learn about simplifying multiple-degree rational expressions; working with imaginary and complex numbers; how to understand and apply the binomial theorem; how to solve basic quadratic equations with factoring; and how to apply analytic geometry to conic sections. They will solve simultaneous equations (linear and conic) using graphing, substitution, and elimination and apply basic algebra to problems involving ratios and proportions.
A few essential resources make your learning extra rich this year. The All-Subjects package includes two 3” Binders with Tabs to organize your Instructor’s Guides.
The The Timeline Book, and Markable Map and Markers are useful in high school levels 100 through 500 if you don’t already own them. (The Timeline Book and Markable Map only need to be purchased once. You'll be using them each year throughout your Sonlight studies).
