Shipping Policies and Rates
All shipments:
Sonlight Curriculum, Ltd. insures items against damage or theft during transit when shipped via FedEx® or UPS® anywhere in the world. We do not insure Postal Service deliveries unless you specifically request and pay for the service.
Domestic orders (Lower 48 US states)
All Core and Heirloom Club members receive FREE standard shipping to the lower 48 U.S. states, Core members for a full year, Heirloom members for life. For all others, the following rules apply:
- Orders over $150 receive FREE standard shipping via FedEx® Home Delivery®.
- Orders under $150 incur a shipping charge of $10 for standard shipping (FedEx Home Delivery®).
- FedEx® and UPS® require a street address (no PO Box) and a phone number.
- Allow 3-5 business days for delivery via FedEx® Home Delivery® after your order leaves our warehouse.
- Expedited shipping is available via FedEx® 1-Day and 2-Day service. See the "Expedited Shipping" chart below.
While these shipping options give your order Rush status in our warehouse, the 1-Day/2-Day only applies to weekdays and does not start until the package leaves our building. So, if you order late Friday night and request 2-Day shipping, you will not likely receive your box until Wednesday of the following week. Expedited Saturday delivery incurs an additional $15.00 fee per box.
- You can also select uninsured USPS Media Mail for $5 for qualifying orders. Allow up to 2–4 weeks for delivery.
- Or you can arrange and pay for a specific alternative service by contacting us via a comment on your order or call (303) 730-6292.
Alaska, Hawaii, APO/FPO, and US territories
- FedEx® shipping for Alaska & Hawaii and USPS Priority Shipping for APO/FPO and U.S. Territories is available at the rates indicated in the chart at the lower right. FedEx Fuel Surcharges are additional. See our Discounted Base Shipping Rate chart. The FedEx Fuel Surcharge fluctuates with market conditions. During 2008, it fluctuated between 2% and 34% of the base rate. Use our shipping calculator to find the current surcharge. Note: FedEx® and UPS® require a street address (no PO Box) and a phone number.
- Orders under $150 that qualify for USPS Media Mail can select this service for $5. Please allow up to 4 weeks for delivery.
International (including Canada)
- Select FedEx® shipment via our Discounted Base Shipping Rate chart. FedEx Fuel Surcharges are additional. See our Discounted Base Shipping Rate chart. The FedEx Fuel Surcharge fluctuates with market conditions. During 2008 it fluctuated between 2% and 34% of the base rate. Use our shipping calculator to find the current surcharge. Note: FedEx® and UPS® require a street address (no PO Box) and a phone number.
- FedEx® generally takes 3-5 business days for delivery after your order leaves our warehouse.
- Sonlight normally holds orders to International destinations that have backordered items up to four weeks in order to ship all possible materials together. If you are ordering for delivery outside the United States, please be aware of the available shipping options and shipping limitations on orders sent to your country. You are responsible for all duties, taxes, and other charges required by the country of destination.
- Incorrect address or address without a phone number can result in your package being held up in customs, resulting in additional delays and charges.
- Please be sure that the address you give is accurate for delivery within your country, and please tell us which word (name) is the Country, Province, City, and Postal Code. Please include your phone number and email address.
Note for Canadian customers: A 5% Canadian GST-Goods and Services Tax will be applied to your online order.
Import Restrictions:
- Biologically active items: Due to import restrictions on biologically active items (soil, seeds, yeast, etc.), Sonlight cannot ship the following science supply kits to certain countries: KSK, 3SK, 4SKM, 6SK, 7SKA, 150-35, 250- 30, 550-16, RM25, 250-30, and SS122. You will have to find equivalent items locally.
- Flashmaster: Due to European Union recycling restrictions, we cannot ship Flashmaster to EU countries.
Expedited Shipping Fees
Rush Service
Need your order faster but don't want to pay a higher shipping fee? Our Rush Service may be just what you need. If you place your order before 11am (MST), your order will be on its way to you that day. If you place your order after 11am (MST), we will ship your order the next day. You'll still have standard shipping but your order will leave our warehouse sooner.

How to calculate FedEx shipping costs
Find your country on the Country Category chart, then locate on the Discounted Base Shipping Rate chart the column that matches your Country Category and the row that matches the dollar value of your order. Your shipping cost is the total cost of goods you are ordering multiplied by the percentage in the chart, plus the FedEx Fuel Surcharge. The FedEx Fuel Surcharge fluctuates with market conditions, so is not included in the Base Rates below. Use our shipping calculator to find the current surcharge.
Example: You want to ship a $425 order to Australia (Category F). Category F at $425 receives a 24% base shipping rate. $425 x 0.24 = $102.00 base shipping charge. If the Fuel Surcharge is 5% at the time you place your order, then the total shipping will be $425 x 0.24 x 1.05 = $107.10. All rates are subject to change.
