Reader Packages for Cores P4/5 through 2

To increase the flexibility of your homeschool curriculum choices for these younger ages, we offer mix-n-match Readers.

From the ages of about 3 to 8, children vary dramatically in their reading abilities, one child to the other and, sometimes, the same child from one month to the next. To give you the best opportunity to select the right Sonlight Reader packages for your younger students, Sonlight has varying designations for our early elementary Reader packages...and for the Language Arts programs to go along with them.

As you consider what packages to buy for your early elementary children (3- through 7- or 8-years olds), we urge you to consider their reading abilities, pick up the appropriate Readers and matching Language Arts programs for each student, and combine them with whatever appropriate Core P4/5 through Core C package you prefer.

A couple of examples:

  • Suppose you are teaching two children ages 5 and 8 and have decided to use Core B.Your first step is to determine your students' reading abilities. Let's say your 5-year-old has a "K" reading ability (i.e., s/he is just ready to begin to learn the letters and their sounds). Your 8-year-old, meanwhile, is set for a "2 Intermediate" reading package. You can readily select Core B with Grade 3 Readers and add the Grade K Readers and Language Arts package for your 5-year-old.
  • Or,

  • You have just pulled your son out of second grade because he is struggling to read. You decide you like our Core B+C program with Grade 1 Readers and Language Arts. We believe that children, as they learn to read, need to read every day. Therefore, note that all early elementary Reader packages include 5-day schedules only.
