Some of the most common questions parents have when they start homeschooling are, "How do I know it's going to work?" and, "How can I make sure my children will be prepared for college?"
While our scholarship winners won't provide you with answers to your specific situation, they do provide convincing evidence that Sonlight Curriculum works!
Each scholarship winner has used an average of five Sonlight Core programs and the curriculum's success is evident. Just look at the achievements of these high school graduates! Among the eight 2007 scholarship winners, you'll find:
- An average SAT score of 2180 (out of 2400).
- Mission-minded hearts and mission work participants.
- Outstanding, passing scores on College Board exams like Advanced Placement History and Microeconomics.
- An award-winning short film writer and co-director of the 2005 SMCC Film Festival.
- Two English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers in Japan.
- A first chair flutist at the renowned Interlochen Arts Camp.
- A violinist, a vocalist, a pianist, an award-winning orator and essayist, excellent citizens, family contributors, and interesting personalities.
And this is to name just a few of these scholars' accomplishments!
These graduates plan to attend college at institutions such as Wheaton College, Grove City College, Wheaton Music Conservatory, John Brown University, Northwestern University, Cedarville University, and the University of Montana. Collectively they will pursue degrees in engineering, musical performance, medicine, physical therapy, writing, and so forth.
All eight of the winners excel academically. But probably more impressive is their collective spiritual maturity and servant's hearts. Read more about the 2007 scholarship winners here and enjoy the many interesting stories they have to tell. We've included a number of direct quotes from the winners' scholarship application packages that we hope will give you greater insight into the hearts and minds of these promising individuals.
"He wanted some AP studies, but there were no schools here for that," said Jeremy's mom, Jill. "So he created his own AP programs, from planning weekly lessons to passing College Board tests with flying colors."
