As you are well aware, our forums have been down for some time now. Unfortunately, as we have continued to work the problem, we have uncovered even more problems. Therefore, our forums will not be up at 3:00 pm MDT, June 30, as earlier promised.
We discovered this afternoon about 2:00 pm our time (while trying to restore service) that we may have a deeper problem than the reported hard drive failure. We now suspect our main system controller on the server has failed. If true, this means that our machine is not able to be restored and we will likely have to replace the machine. We haven’t given up on restoring in this machine just yet, but . . .
In the meantime, we are simultaneously working to move our forums service to another server, so we can restore the service more quickly than waiting to get a new machine and essentially build it "from scratch."
Our computer team is working right now (it is 2:55 pm MDT as I type this) to move the forums to another machine, while still working the current machine. If successful, the forums could be ready to use this evening, say as early as 6:00 pm. However, if they run into further problems in our attempts, it could be much later this evening.
And, to be as transparent as I can be, it is still possible that our forums will be down for several days.
We do recognize this service is important to you. It is vitally important to us as well. Hence, we are working diligently to repair our server and get the forums on line. We will keep you posted as best we can on our progress. For those who may have concerns that you have paid for service and are not getting your full value, we will make it right as best we can. We will your concerns as soon as we can restore service.
I do appreciate your disappointment at this turn of events. I am grieved we have failed to provide the level and quality of service we seek and you deserve. I ask for your forgiveness even as we strive to restore service.
Sincerely,
Wayne Griess
General Manager
