Your purchase of this product will allow us to donate a portion of the total cost of your order to Sonlight's charities. We are thrilled that, last year, we were able to contribute $1.07 to these organizations for every "Audio Memory® History Songs CD Kit" we sold. We look forward to doing the same this year!

Eleven songs provide a wonderful mental timeline for American history, including key figures and their achievements, and major events in American history from 1492 to 1991. While the music on this CD is less tinny than on the States & Capitals CD, the use of the accordion on most songs may drive some listeners crazy after a while. (To be fair, however: the recording was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Musical Album for Children category in 1999; two of the songs were also considered for awards in the Best Instrumental Arrangement with Vocals category.) Counterbalancing the music: the background sound effects are creative and interesting, and the content is extremely rich.

We bought this in the cassette version about nine years ago, it wore out and I'm buying the CD. We loved it, it was a great way to review and remember our history. I recommend it for all ages. I confess, my five sons love the battle sounds, especially.

While I do like a lot of audio learning this one is not one of my favorites. One personal pet peeve - singing about very unhappy events in an upbeat way. It just seems wrong to hear, "Japan bombed Pearl Harbor" while you are bebopping along to the beat. To be fair I'm not sure how this could be done better, but I wish I hadn't have gotten it!
