For some reason my kids didn't ever get into this book. Maybe because of the length of the stories and lack of pictures. We ended up reading from Thornton Burgess books, which have a similar feel but were easier to sit through for my 5, 4, and 2 year old. I'll try this book again when they get a bit older and less antsy.

My 4 year old loved the stories and since the next story is always introduced at the end of the preceeding story, he would always beg for another one. You do have to read them with a little extra drama and enthusiasm to hold the attention of little ones, but I think if you plan to read lots of literature to your children, it is good to start them listening to chapter books without pictures. (And get practice yourself with outdated syntax.) It's from the 1940's so the gender roles are pretty heavy-handed in places. My son wishes we had a muskrat lady housekeeper now.

I love the old fashioned stories and old fashioned writing but this book does not engage my preschooler. Plus, I think some of the stories are rather long for a preschooler to sit through without something to look at.

My four and six year olds request Uncle Wiggily every night at bedtime. They are entertained and I love the old-fashioned morals that are taught in the stories. I agree that it's well worth the extra effort required to read through the "old" language, because the kids truly love the characters.

The first time I got out this book and tried to read it, we (all of us) were bored to bits. But, then this summer, after the core after we were done with school for the year, my daughter made a request to read it again. Though I still find it rather boring, the kids really enjoyed it the second time through. And it teaches about some older things I wouldn't have otherwise.

My boys love this book. But, really, I couldn't stand reading it. In the end, I had Daddy read it for bedtime, since I really couldn't take it. He thought it was fun and entertaining and the things that irritated me he enjoyed. Win win.

I thought at first it will bore my 5 year old. But, after reading 3-4 stories from it a day it has become his favorite. He loved it so much that he would want me to read this book to him and would say that he's 5 already, and all the other picture books are for his little sisters.

I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did. I think my 4 yo daughter felt basically the same way. We both kind of got used to it but never really enjoyed it as much as so many of the other books. It was the first time she had to sit and listen to a book without pictures so it was good to teach her how to do that. I edited the words "*****" and "queer" from the stories because they just don't work in today's world in the same context in which they were written. I'll save this for my boys. They may be able to appreciate the adventure.

This had definitely been a family favorite. At first it was hard to get used to the old-fashioned writing style, but that did not stop my son from requesting more Uncle Wiggly. I know this one will be reread this summer many times.

My 4 yo daughter loved this book. We have read many of the stories over and over. Thank you for introducing us to Uncle Wiggily.
