Threw this one away right out of the box. The Bible says to stay away from witchcraft, but we are expected to explain "good" witches. Some people say they used "good fairy" in place of "good witch," but that's kind of like calling the devil a demon. Same thing, less sinister.

Hands down, this was one of the best books I have ever read. It is better than the movie, if you can imagine that being possible. It is not nearly as scary or threatening as the movie might seem to children. The Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion are adorable characters that made us smile a lot throughout the book. I also felt that this book was no threat to Christianity, as it is entirely fictional and obviously not a true story. I truly enjoyed this book. My only regret is that I did not get the chance to read it as a child.

I'd give it 3.5 stars. If I'd read the book without ever having seen the movie, I might have rated it higher. The movie is now such an icon of culture, that reading the book after having seen the movie myraid times, well the book was a bit disappointing. It was interesting to see the differences between the book and the movie--the book presented a good opportunity to show children how books are not always like their corresponding movie. The book is a fantastical book which I did not feel was threatening to Christianity

I had never read this book, and DID NOT like the movie. I was hesitant to even read this book to my 5 1/2 year old, and told her that if I did not like its content that we would stop reading it. I was completely surprised by this book. It is enjoyable and very different from the movie. Any crisis or scary issues are mild and delt with quickly. It was a good time to talk about witches, and that was not the main portion of the book anyway. We enjoyed it as a simple children's book. I wanted to put others at ease who may have been as concerned as I was.
