Horizons Math is designed to help your children understand math from the ground up.
Using a spiral learning technique, children are first introduced to a concept and then asked to solve related and increasingly difficult problems over the course of several days or weeks. The concept then re-emerges in later exercises for a new concept. This frees up the children's minds and does not overwhelm them with too much information. They feel confident because they get to take steady, measured steps, and as they revisit concepts over time, they continually strengthen and reinforce their existing knowledge base.
Each year's program consists of three pieces:
- Two colorful, well-organized workbooks each with 80 lessons and 8 unit exams
- Teacher's Handbook with daily lesson plans, answer keys, and final exams
- 80 reproducible worksheets
Teacher Friendly

We have been using Horizons math for years, and we love it! We used many other programs before starting with Horizons, but found this to be an awesome program that gives an excellent base in math skills. My oldest son is moving out of the Horizons books next year as he goes to 7th grade, but I will continue to use them with my younger children through all the available Horizons grade levels!

I used Horizons Math 1 with my son when we lived in Florida. Now we are in New Zealand, where he attends a public school. However, I am ordering Horizons Math 2 to supplement his education. It's a great program and our son thrives on Horizons!

We LOVED Horizons math. My son learned so much more so much faster than he did in public school. I've recommended it for a friend who didn't like the curriculum they used last year. She just recieved it and is very excited to begin using it. We had NO problems at all. We used the public school's testing materials at the end of the year, and he's WAY ahead of the PS kids. I'm very happy with it.

My daughters enjoyed this curriculum. Both girls are adopted and both are somewhat behind their peers. My older daughter had used Saxon and definitely did not like it, though she did learn a lot. It was much easier to get her to do the Horizons Level 5.When she completed it she skipped up to Teaching Textbooks 7th grade program. She is now about half way through that and doing fairly well.
My younger daughter did Horizons level 2. The manipulatives really helped. At times, though, it was beneficial to her to have the Level 5 manipulatives. We have recommended this program to my niece for her daughter who is coming out of public school and hasn't learned her math. There are a few errors in the answer keys, so always check.

I really did not like this curriculum. There was too much skipping around and not enough establishing a concrete base. My daughter couldn't remember anything she did after a two week Christmas break. We ended up starting a different curriculum and frantically working to give her a good foundation.
