I have to say, it has been a bit overwhelming reading about gods, dragons and spirits. I've ended up skipping some stories and rewording much of the individual stories while trying not to lose the essence of the story.

We keep trying to read this book. My husband says he just can't do it (he's made it through two chapters). :) I think it probably depends on the reader as to how well you will like this book. On a positive note, I've enjoyed getting an "inside" glimpse at another culture's beliefs. I had no idea how superstitious the Korean culture is. The few stories we've read have been interesting and well written. We also have many opportunities to highlight why we believe what we believe because of the contrast. However, on the other side of the coin are stories that are very difficult to relate to and full of superstition, spirits, charms etc. The "fix" I've arrived at is to demote this book from evening family reading to during the day as time allows.

I wanted to read this, but we both got so bored with it, we just couldn't muster up the energy to finish and eventually gave up and went tot he next book.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It is well written and broken into short stories which make it perfect for reading aloud. However I was not prepared for so much of the plot to be based upon the religious beliefs which differ so much from our own. On the positive side, it has offered many opportuinities to discuss what we believe as it would apply to the situations, and learn to respect others eventhough we do not share the same faith. Yet auch a large portion of the stories revolve around the religious practices and beliefs of that culture that I am choosing to read less than the whole book at this time.
