4 out of 5 stars by Lisa S on 2011-09-20
My son gave it 4 stars. He did not think it exciting, but we found it enjoyable as something with short chapters to read before bedtime. We enjoyed it and didn't feel the need to rush through it.

I tried to get into this book. It was well written and the art work was incredible, but the story seemed to lag a bit.

I agree that When I first started reading this book I wasn't exactly thrilled either however...Once you get used to HOW the book is written and should be read, it becomes a wonderful story that is filled to the brim with information..It really does tie everything together.

We tried this book for awhile, but grew too frustrated with it. This was the consensus between myself, my husband and our 10 year old son.Our 12 year old said he wanted to continue with it, so we told him he could on his own time. My husband and I didn't feel it was beneficiary to continue with it, so we dropped it from our schedule.

Because my kids were impatient, we started this book before we actually started the school year. I'll confess that when I previewed the book, I didn't think it would capture my kids' attention. Was I wrong! The wonderful illustrations were captivating and beautiful and the story was inspiring. Not only did my kids keep begging to read "Just one more chapter", but they spontaneously decided to make their own "Seabird". Then each day their handmade birds would join us for Read-aloud time. From the story we not only learned history, but also science, geography and the blessings of family. Much of the story coincided with information we covered in another Core 5 history book. What a pleasure!
